Tattvarthasutra
[4. 11-20 At a height begins the region of the heavenly bodies, which is one hundred ten yojanas high from there and slants towards the innumerable islands and oceans. At a height of ten yojanas, that is, eight hundred yojanas above the aforementioned plain, is the sun's abode. From there, at eighty yojanas high, i.e., eight hundred eighty yojanas above the plain, is the moon's abode. Up to a height of twenty yojanas, or nine hundred yojanas above the plain, are the planets, stars, and scattered constellations. The term scattered stars indicates that some stars are irregular in their movements, sometimes moving below the sun and moon and sometimes above them. Above the moon, at a height of twenty yojanas, at first, are the stars at a height of four yojanas, then at a height of four yojanas is Mercury, at three yojanas above Mercury is Venus, at three yojanas above Venus is Jupiter, at three yojanas above Jupiter is Mars, and at three yojanas above Mars is Saturn. An irregular star, while moving below the sun, stays within ten yojanas beneath the sun in the region of heavenly bodies. Those residing in the heavenly (luminous) abode are known as Jyotishka, including the sun and others. In all their crowns is a bright halo, similar to the sun's halo, and insignia resembling that of the sun, moon, and stars. 13.
It has been previously mentioned that up to the Mount Manushottara, the human realm exists. The heavenly bodies of the human realm constantly revolve around Mount Meru. In the human realm, there are one hundred thirty-two suns and moons—two in Jambudvipa, four in the ocean of salt, twelve in the Dhātakīkhanda, twenty-four in the Kāloda sea, and seventy-two in the half-Pushkara. One moon has a family of 28 constellations, 88 planets, and 66,975 koti (crore) stars. Although, according to the nature of worldly customs, the heavenly bodies keep revolving by themselves, yet for the sake of manifesting special prosperity, some playful deities known as servants lift these heavenly bodies. Those who lift the heavenly bodies in the front have the shape of lions, on the right side have the shape of elephants, behind them have the shape of bulls, and on the left side have the shape of horses. 14.
In the human realm, various forms of time-regulation occur such as muhurta, day and night, fortnight, month, etc., as well as past, present, and also countable and uncountable types; this does not happen outside the human realm. If someone were to engage in time-regulation outside the human realm and act accordingly, it would be according to the established practices of the human realm.
