**Jain Philosophy Sutras**
[3.7-18]
There are three types of inferior and superior states of existence, which are an interim moment. The state of non-humans (tiryancha) is also, in terms of excellence, similar to humans regarding both inferior and superior interim moments.
Existence is of two types based on birth and body difference. Any birth, where one can live for the time of superior or inferior states, is called birth existence, and the repeated rebirth in the same species, without taking birth in another species, is called body existence. The inferior and superior states of existence for humans and non-humans have been indicated above. Both inferior body existence of humans and non-humans is indeed an interim moment concerning birth existence. The superior body existence of humans lasts for seven or eight births, which means that any human must leave the human species after living for consecutively seven or eight births.
Not all non-humans have a body existence that's the same as birth existence. Therefore, it is essential to provide a detailed description of both states of non-humans here. The birth existence of earth-bodied beings is twenty-two thousand years, water-bodied beings is seven thousand years, air-bodied beings is three thousand years, and fire-bodied beings is three half-days (ahoratra). The body existence of these four is countless in the measures of descending (avasarpini) and ascending (utsarpini) time. The birth existence of plant-based beings is ten thousand years, and their body existence is infinite in descending and ascending measures. The birth existence of two-sensed beings is twelve years, three-sensed beings is forty-nine half-days, and four-sensed beings is six months. The body existence of these three is counted in thousand years. Among five-sensed non-humans, there are differences in the birth existence of those born from the womb and the ones formed from aggregation. Among the womb-born, the birth existence of aquatic beings, snakes, and lizards is a crore years, the birth existence of birds is an innumerable fraction of palyopama, while the birth existence of four-legged ground dwellers is three palyopama. In the aggregation-born beings, the birth existence of aquatic beings is a crore years, snakes is seventy-three thousand years, lizards is forty-two thousand years, birds is seventy-two thousand years, and terrestrial beings is eighty-four thousand years. The body existence of womb-born five-sensed beings is seven or eight births, while the body existence of aggregated beings is a measure of seven births. 17-18.
