Middle World
The human beings are situated in the intermediate state for a moment that is like a three-fold measure.
Jambudvipa and the auspiciously named islands like Lavana are surrounded by the sea.
All those islands and seas have the form of a band (ring), are enveloped in the eastern direction, and have double the width. In the midst of them all is Jambudvipa, which is spherical, has a circumference of one lakh yojanas, and in the center is Mount Meru.
In Jambudvipa, there are seven regions named Bharata, Hemavata, Harivata, Videha, Ramyaka, Hiranayavata, and Airavata.
Separating those regions are six mountain ranges: Himavan, Mahahimavan, Nishadha, Neela, Rukmi, and Shikhari which are stretched in the east-west direction.
In Dhātakikhand, the mountains and regions are double that of Jambudvipa. There are also the same number (as Dhātakikhand) in Pushkarardhadvipa. Until the mountain named Manushottara, there are human beings (this far). They are Arya and Mlechha.
Excluding Devakuru and Uttarakuru, Bharata, Airavata, and Videha are all lands of action.
The lifespan of human beings is around three-fold of the average, and the lowest is at the end moment.
The lifespan of non-humans is also the same.
The form of the islands and seas resembles that of a garland in the Middle World. This is clear from the description of the two oceans.
In the Middle World, there are countless islands and seas, which are situated in the order that after an island there is a sea and after a sea, there is an island. All of their names are auspicious. Here, three points regarding the diameter, structure, and form of the islands and seas are described, which reveal the shape of the Middle World.
Diameter - The east-west and north-south extensions of Jambudvipa are each one lakh yojanas, while that of Lavanasamudra is double. Similarly, the Lavanasamudra of Dhātakikhand is double that of Dhātakikhand, the Kalodadhi is double that of Dhātakikhand, the Pushkaravardhvipa is double that of Kalodadhi, and the Pushkrodadhi is double that of Pushkaravardhvipa. This is the order of the diameters.
