2. 26-31] Five aspects related to interval movement
occurs in a completely straight line and sometimes in a curved line, because the basis of the new place of rebirth is the karma created in the past, and karma is of various kinds. Therefore, worldly souls are capable of both straight and curved movements. In summary, the soul that goes to the place of liberation has only a straightforward movement, and the souls that go to the place of rebirth have both straightforward and curved movements. The straight movement is also called the "Ishugati" because it is direct due to the velocity generated by the previous body, similar to the motion of an arrow propelled by a bow. The curved movement has three names: Paanimukta, Langalika, and Gomutrika. If there is a break in a straight line once, it is called Paanimukta; if there is a break twice, it is called Langalika; and if there is a break three times, it is called Gomutrika. A soul cannot have any such curved movement that requires more than three turns, because regardless of how unfavorably situated the new place of birth is (in a curved line), it can surely be reached within three turns. There is no specific rule for the number of turns in the curved movement of pudgala; it is based on the motivating cause. 28-29.
Time measurement of movement - The time measurement of interval movement is base-level (one time) and superior-level (four times). When there is a straight movement, it is considered as one single time, and when there is a curved movement, it should be understood as two, three, or four times. The increase in time is based on the increase in the number of turns. The time measurement for a movement with one turn is two times, for two turns it is three times, and for three turns it is four times. In brief, when going to the place of generation from one body, it takes one time to reach the turning point from the former place and another time to reach the place of generation from the turning point. According to this principle, a movement of two bodies takes three times, and a movement of three bodies takes four times. It should also be noted here that for the soul going through straight movement, the emergence of new age and movement karma occurs at the time of rejecting the previous body, while for the soul with curved movement, the emergence of new age, movement, and the so-called anupurvi (subsequent) name karma occurs as far as possible from the first curved position, because the emergence of previous age and so on exists only up to the previous curved position. 30.
Time measurement of foodlessness - For a liberated soul, there is no question of food in interval movement, because it is free from all subtle and gross bodies. However, 1. These terms like Paanimukta are famous in Digambara commentary texts.
