PRAKRIT VERSES IN SRNGĀRAPRAKASA
Bhoja's Sțgāraprakāśa (S'P ) is a work on Alamkāra of an encyclopaedic character.' A critical edition of this huge work is a long felt need. The scholarly world should be grateful, however, to the Yatiraja Swamy of Melkote and G. R. Josyer for making the complete text available in print ( in four volumes ) although imperfect in so many respects. Especially, the text of Prakrit passages, as presented in these four volumes is in many cases, highly corrupt and almost unintelligible. It is my earnest endeavour to present here the Prakrit text in its correct form by tracing the passages wherever possible, to their original sources or by comparing them with the corresponding passages cited in other works on Alamkāra or Vyakarana or Cchandas-Šāstra. The Apabhraṁsa passages will be dealt with separately in an Appendix.
