Prakrit Verses in Vagbhatalamkara (With the Commentary of Simhadevagani)
There are two Vagbhatas in alamkara-sastra one, the author of the present Vägbhatalamkara and the other, the author of Kavyanusasana. Vagbhata (his name occurs as Bāhada2 in Prakrit) was a Jain. He flourished in the first half of the 12 th century A. D. and wrote his work on alamkara between 1125-1143 A. D. It is a small work containing 260 Karikās. The examples appear to be the author's own. A few of them are in Prakrit. Simhadevagani quotes five Prakrit (including Apabhramṣa) verses in the course of his commentary. They are indicated by an asterisk.
