PRAKRIT VERSES IN VAKROKTI-JĪVITA
The Vakroktijivita' of Kuntaka (between 950–1000 A.D.) is a work of great value' as it shows originality, great literary acumen and is full of charming ideas'. There are about thirty Prakrit passages, cited as illustrations in this masterly work on Sanskrit literary criticism and aesthetics. Some of these verses we find quoted in other works on Sanskrit poetics and we can easily restore them by comparing their readings and referring to their sources. Quite a few Prakrit verses are highly corrupt and can be restored only on obtaining fresh Manuscript readings, The Kalpalatāviveka? by an anonymous author throws some light on these corrupt passages and is of so.ne use in reconstructing them.
1) Annam ladahattanaam......
(p. 57) अण्णं लडहत्तणअं अण्ण च्चिअ कावि वत्तणच्छाआ। सामा सामण्णपावइणो रेहच्चिअ ण होइ ॥

(अन्यल्लटभत्वं अन्यैव कापि वर्तनच्छाया। श्यामा सामान्यप्रजापते रेखव न भवति ॥)
This gatha we find quoted, as an example of the figure of speech called Atiśayokti, in Kavyaprakasa ( KP), Alamkāra-sarvasvas (AS), Hemacandra's Kavyanusasana (KAS) etc. The KP and AS read anna via' (Sk anyeva ). The reading adopted here is found in KAS.
