જૈન તત્ત્વજ્ઞાન અને આધુનિક વિજ્ઞાન પ્રવાહ છે. તે ક્ષેત્ર નથી કે તેનું માપ નથી. આકાશ જગા આપવાનું કાર્ય કરે છે, તો કાળ અસ્તિત્વ જાળવવાનું કાર્ય કરે છે. આકાશ અને કાળ બંનેના કાર્ય અલગ છે. કાળ પાંચેય દ્રવ્ય સાથે જોડાયેલું છે. પાંચેય દ્રવ્યનો પર્યાય એ જ કાળ છે. આ રીતે જૈન માન્યતા જુદી પડે છે. નિશ્ચત આકાશ પછી કોઈ આકાશ નથી તે માનવું યોગ્ય નથી -

Einstein himself asserts that the universe consisting of large and small masses hanging apparently in infinite space is not in fact infinite, one suggestion from his theory is that universe of four dimensions is finite in spatial directions and infinite in the direction of time. It is like a cylinder whose surface is bounded in some direction viz across the lines which generate the cylinder. This finite dimension correspodes to three special dimensions of our world of perception. But the cylinder is also infinite in two other directions, so is also our univers which is infinite in the dimension of time runing from infinite past in to the infine future” (આઈન્સ્ટાઈન સ્વયં ભારપૂર્વક જણાવે છે કે, વિશ્વ અનંતાકાશમાં નાના અને મોટા ખુલ્લી રીતે લટકતા પિંડો ધરાવે છે તે વાસ્તવમાં અનંત નથી. તેમના સિદ્ધાંતમાંથી એક પ્રસ્તાવ એ છે કે, ચારમાપવાળું વિશ્વ, અવકાશિક દિશામાં પરિમિત અને કાળની દિશામાં અનંત છે. તે એક એવા નળાકાર જેવું છે, જેની સપાટી અમુક દિશામાં મર્યાદિત હોય. આ પરિમિત વિસ્તાર આપણા દૃષ્ટિગોચર વિશ્વના ત્રણ અવકાશિક વિસ્તારને અનુસરતો છે. પરંતુ નળાકાર બીજી બે દિશામાં
અનંતપણ છે. તેથી આપણું વિશ્વ અનંત ભૂતકાળથી અનંત ભવિષ્ય તરફ જતાં કાળની દિશામાં અનંત છે)
ઉપરોકત આઈન્સ્ટાઈનનું ગોળમિતિ વિશ્વ the cylinder theory of universe કહેવાય છે. તેમાં the time dimension is uncurved and so may extend to infinity તેનો અર્થ જો એવો કરવામાં આવે કે વિશ્વ સમયની દૃષ્ટિએ અનંત ભૂતકાળથી અનંત ભવિષ્યકાળમાં વિસ્તૃત છે, અથવા વધારે સ્પષ્ટ કરીને કહીએ
