नरवद् दृश्यते लोके श्रीगुरुः पापकर्मणा । शिववद् दृश्यते लोके भवानि पुण्यकर्मणा ।।

As human, the guru is seen by the sinner; as divine, by the meritful.
Though the Guru has a human body, it is not really the human element that functions as the Guru. It is the Divine realized by him or manifest in bim or invoked through him that is the real Guru. Only those who have acquired the competence or are gifted by Grace to perceive this truth, are able to regard the Guru in human form as none other than the Divine. The others in ignorance see only the human exterior and look upon the Guru as but a man.
