જૈન ધર્મ: વારસો અને વૈભવ
આપણા જેવું માનવું જોઈએ. જે યાતના અને પીડા આપણાથી સહન નથી થતી એવી કોઈને પીડા કરવાથી આપણે દૂર રહેવું જોઈએ. આપણે સમસ્ત પ્રાણીજગત અને પ્રકૃતિનાં તત્ત્વોની સાથે માધ્યચ્યભાવ વધારવો જોઈએ.
આ જ વાત સુપ્રસિદ્ધ પાશ્ચાત્ય દાર્શનિક ટી. એચ. હક્સલે એક શતાબ્દી પૂર્વે ઉચ્ચારી હતી.
"The question of all questions for humanity is the determination of man's place in nature and his relation to the cosmos. Whence our race came, what sort of limits are set to our power over nature and to nature's power over us, to what goals are we striving, are the problems which present themselves afresh with undiminished interest to every human being of earth.”
અર્થાત્ “પ્રકૃતિમાં મનુષ્યના સ્થાન અને સૃષ્ટિના પર્યાવરણ સાથેના એના સંબંધનું નિર્ધારણ માનવતા માટે બહુ મોટો સવાલ છે. માનવજાતિનો ઉદ્ભવ કેવી રીતે થયો. મનુષ્યની પ્રકૃતિ ઉપરના અધિકારની અને એ જ રીતે પ્રકૃતિની મનુષ્ય ઉપર પ્રભાવની કઈ મર્યાદાઓ છે અને આપણે કયા ધ્યેયને સિદ્ધ કરવા મથી રહ્યા છીએ – આ બધી સમસ્યાઓ એવી છે જે આ ધરતી પર જન્મ લેનાર દરેક મનુષ્યની સામે જ્વલંત ખડી થઈ જાય છે.”
દસ વર્ષ પૂર્વે પ્રકાશિત પોતાના પુસ્તકમાં અહિંસાના પ્રબળ સમર્થક સંયુક્ત રાષ્ટ્રસંઘના પૂર્વ ઉપ-સેક્રેટરી જનરલ રૉબર્ટ મૂલરે આ વસ્તુ-સ્થિતિને ખૂબ સહજતાથી આ રીતે વ્યક્ત કરી છે : “Know this planet; love this planet;
Care for this planet For you come from Mother Earth
You are made of her elements You are the earth became conscious
of her self, her mind and heart.”
