સુરીશ્વર અને સમ્રા
ઘણું લખ્યુ છે,પરન્તુ તે મધાઓનાં વચના ન ટાંકતાં માત્ર પ્રગલ કેનેડી ( Pringle Kennedy ) એ પેાતાના ‘ધી હીસ્ટરી ઓફ ધી ગ્રેટ મેગસ, ભા. ૧ ના ( The History of the Great Moghuls, V. I. P. 311 ) પૃ. ૩૧૧ માં લખેલા શબ્દે ટાંકી આ પ્રકરણ સાથે આ પુસ્તકની પણ પૂર્ણાહુતિ કરીશુ.

"That each person should be taxed according to his ability, that there should be shown on exemp. tion or favour as regrds this, that equal justice should be meted out and external foes kept at bay, that every man should be at liberty to believe what he pleases without any interference by the State with his conscience. Such are the principles upon which the British Government in India rests, and such are its real boast and strength. But all these principles were those ef Akbar, and to him remains the undying glory of having been the first in Hindustan to put them into practice. These rules now underlie all modern Western States, but few even of such States can boast that these principles are as thoroughly carried out by them in this the twentieth century, as they were by Akbar himself more than three hundred years ago.
