अजीव तत्त्व वर्णन २३५ We believe thatEther exists throughout all space of Universe, in the most remote regions of the stars, and at the same time within the earth; and in the seemingly impossible small space which exists between the atoms of all matter. That is to say, Ether is every-where; and that electro-magnetic wave can be propagated everywhere.
ईथर क्या है? (अधिक से अधिक यही कहा जा सकता है कि 'ईथर' अदृश्य पदार्थ हे । वह न ठोस है, न तरल है, न गैस है और ऐसी वस्तु भी नहीं है जिसे देखा जा सके ।
हम विश्वास करते हैं कि ईथर विश्व (लोक) में सर्वत्र व्याप्त है, सुदूर नक्षत्र मण्डल में भी है, पृथ्वी में भी है और यहाँ तक परमाणुओं के बीच में (परमाणुओं के मध्य की वह दूरी जिसे देखना असम्भव सा है) भी ह। आशय यह है कि ईथर सर्वत्र है, इसीलिए वैद्युत - चुम्बकीय तरंगें भी सर्वत्र गति कर सकती है ।
और अल्बर्ट आइन्स्टीन के अपेक्षावाद के सिध्दान्तानुसार - 'ईथर अभौतिक, अपरिमाण्विक, अविभाज्य, अखण्ड, आकाश के समान व्यापक, अरुप, गति का अनिवार्य माध्यम और अपने आप में स्थिर है ।'
Thus it is proved that Science and Jain Physics agree absolutely so far as they call Dharma (Ether) non-material, non-atomic, non-discrete, continuous, co-extensive with space, invisible and as a. necessary medium of motion and one which does not itself move.
(Prof. G.R. Jain) इस प्रकार वैज्ञानिकों ने भी सिध्द कर दिया है कि धर्म अथवा Ether गति का अनिवार्य सहकारी माध्यम है, इसके बिना गति नहीं हो सकती । हां अभी अधर्म (Fulcrum of rest) के बारे में विज्ञान मौन है; किन्तु यह बहुत संभव है कि एक दिन वह अधर्मास्तिकाय को भी स्वीकार कर ले ।
आकाशास्तिकाय का गुण - आकाश का गुण अवकाश देना है, वह प्रत्येक वस्तु को अवगाह देता है ।
अन्य दार्शनिकों ने आकाश का गुण शब्द माना है। वे यह कहते हैं कि ध्वनि आकाश का गुण है । किन्तु आधुनिक विज्ञान ने सिध्द कर दिया है।
