द्वितीय स्थानपद 1 [137 उववाएणं लोयस्स असंखेज्जइभागे, समुग्धातेणं लोयम्स असंखेज्जइभागे, सटाणेणं लोयस्स असंखेज्जहभागे। एस्थ णं बहवे रयणप्पभापुढविनेरइया परिवसंति, काला कालोभासा गंभीरलोमहरिसा भीमा उत्तासणगा परमकिण्हा वणेणं पण्णता समणाउसो! __ ते णं णिच्चं भीता णिच्चं तत्था णिच्चं तसिया णिच्चं उध्विग्गा णिच्चं परममसुहं संबद्धं गरगभयं पच्चणुभवमाणा विहरंति / [168 प्र.] भगवन् ! रत्नप्रभापृथ्वी के पर्याप्त और अपर्याप्त नारकों के स्थान कहाँ कहे गए हैं ? रत्नप्रभापृथ्वी के नैरयिक कहाँ निवास करते हैं ? [168 उ.] गौतम ! इस एक लाख अस्सी हजार योजन मोटाई वाली रत्नप्रभापृथ्वी के ऊपर एक हजार योजन अवगाहन करने पर, तथा नीचे एक हजार योजन छोड़ कर, मध्य में एक लाख अठहत्तर हजार योजन (जगह) में, रत्नप्रभापृथ्वी के तीस लाख नारकावास होते हैं. ऐसा कहा गया है। वे नरक अन्दर से गोल, बाहर से चौकोर और नीचे से छुरे के आकार से युक्त (संस्थित) हैं, वे नित्य घने अंधकार से ग्रस्त, ग्रह, चन्द्रमा, सूर्य, नक्षत्र आदि ज्योतिष्कों की प्रभा से रहित हैं / उनके तलभाग मेद, चर्बी, मवाद के पटल, रुधिर और मांस के कीचड़ के लेप से लिप्त होते हैं / (अतएव) अशुचि (अपवित्र-गंदे), बीभत्स, अत्यन्त दुर्गन्धित, कापोतरंग की अग्नि के वर्ण-सदृश, कर्कश स्पर्श वाले, दुःसह तथा अशुभ नरक हैं। नरकों में अशुभ वेदनाएँ हैं। इनमें रत्नप्रभापृथ्वी के पर्याप्त एवं अपर्याप्त नैरयिकों के स्थान कहे गए हैं। उपपात की अपेक्षा से (वे) लोक के असंख्यातवें भाग में (होते हैं), समुद्घात की अपेक्षा से लोक के असंख्यातवें भाग में (होते हैं), और स्वस्थान की अपेक्षा से (भी वे) लोक के असंख्यातवें भाग में हैं। यहाँ रत्नप्रभापृथ्वी के बहुत-से नैयिक निवास करते हैं। (वे) काले, काली प्राभा बाले, (भयवश) गम्भीर रोमाञ्च वाले, भीम (भयंकर), उत्कट त्रासजनक और हे आयुष्मन् श्रमणो ! वे वर्ण से अत्यन्त काले कहे गए हैं। वे (वहाँ) नित्य भयभीत, सदैव अस्त, सदा (परमाधार्मिक असुरों द्वारा एवं परस्पर) त्रासित (त्रास पहुँचाए हुए), नित्य उद्विग्न (घबराये हुए), तथा सदैव अत्यन्त अशुभ (स्व-)सम्बद्ध (लगातार) नरक का भय प्रत्यक्ष अनुभव करते रहते हैं। 169. कहि णं भंते ! सक्करप्पभापुढविनेरइयाणं पज्जत्ताऽपज्जत्ताणं ठाणा पण्णत्ता? कहि णं भंते ! सक्करप्पभापुढविनेरइया परिवसंति ? गोयमा ! सक्करप्पभाए पुढवीए बत्तीसुत्तरजोयणसयसहस्सबाहल्लाए उरि एग जोयणसहस्सं प्रोगाहित्ता हेढा वेगं जोयणसहस्सं वज्जित्ता मझे तोसुत्तरे जोयणसतसहस्से, एत्थ णं सक्करप्पभापुढविणेरइयाणं पणवीसं णिरयावासतसहस्सा हवंतीति मक्खातं /
