समयक्षेत्र (मनुष्यक्षेत्र) का वर्णन] गोयमा ! ताहे चत्तारि पंच सामाणिया तं ठाणं उवसंपज्जित्ताणं विहरंति जाव तत्थ अन्ने ईवे उववष्णे भवइ। इंवट्ठाणे णं भंते ! केवइयं कालं विरहिए उववएणं? गोयमा ! जहण्णणं एवकं समयं उक्कोसेणं छम्मासा / बहिया णं भंते ! भणुस्सखेत्तस्स जे चंदिमसूरियगहणक्खत्ततारारूवा ते गं भंते ! देवा कि उड्डोववण्णगा कप्पोववण्णगा विमाणोववाणगा चारोववण्णगा चारद्वतीया गतिरतिया गतिसमावण्णगा? गोयमा ! ते णं देवा णो उड्डोवण्णगा नो कप्पोववष्णगा विमाणोबवण्णगा, नो चारोववण्णगा चारदिईया, नो गतिरतिया नो गतिसमावण्णगा पक्किट्टगसंठाणसंठिएहि जोयणसयसाहस्सिहि तावक्खेतहिं साहस्सियाहि य बाहिराहि वेउब्वियाहिं परिसाहिं महयाहयनट्रगीयवाइयरवेणं दिव्याई भोगभोगाई भुजमाणा सुहलेस्सा सीयलेस्सा मंदलेस्सा मंदायवलेस्सा, चित्तंतरलेसागा, कूडा इव ठाणट्ठिया अण्णोण्णसमोगाढाहिं लेसाहि ते पएसे सवओ समंताओभासेंति उज्जोवेति तर्वेति पभार्सेति / जया णं भंते ! तेसि देवाणं इंदे चयइ, से कहमिदाणि पकरेंति ? गोयमा ! जाव चत्तारि पंच सामाणिया तं ठाणं उवसंपज्जित्ताणं विहरति जाव तत्थ अण्णे उववण्णे भयह। इंवट्ठाणे णं भंते ! केवइयं कालं विरहओ उववाएणं ? गोयमा ! जहण्णेणं एक्कं समयं उक्कोसेणं छम्मासा। 179. भदन्त ! मनुष्यक्षेत्र के अन्दर जो चन्द्र, सूर्य, ग्रह, नक्षत्र और तारागण हैं, वे ज्योतिष्क देव क्या ऊर्ध्वविमानों में (बारह देवलोक से ऊपर के विमानों में) उत्पन्न हुए हैं या सौधर्म आदि कल्पों में उत्पन्न हुए हैं या (ज्योतिष्क) विमानों में उत्पन्न हुए हैं ? वे गतिशील हैं या गतिरहित हैं ? गति में रति करने वाले हैं और गति को प्राप्त हुए हैं ? ___ गौतम ! वे देव ऊर्ध्वविमानों में उत्पन्न हुए नहीं हैं, बारह देवकल्पों में उत्पन्न हुए नहीं हैं, किन्तु ज्योतिष्क विमानों में उत्पन्न हुए हैं। वे गतिशील हैं, स्थितिशील नहीं हैं, गति में उनकी रति है और वे गतिप्राप्त हैं / वे ऊर्ध्वमुख कदम्ब के फूल की तरह गोल आकृति से संस्थित हैं हजारों योजन प्रमाण उनका तापक्षेत्र है, विक्रिया द्वारा नाना रूपधारी बाह्य पर्षदा के देवों से ये युक्त हैं। जोर से बजने वाले वाद्यों, नृत्यों, गीतों, वादित्रों, तंत्री, ताल, त्रुटित, मृदंग आदि की मधुर ध्वनि के साथ दिव्य भोगों का उपभोग करते हुए, हर्ष से सिंहनाद, बोल (मुख से सीटी बजाते हुए) और कलकल ध्वनि करते हुए, स्वच्छ पर्वतराज मेरु की प्रदक्षिणावर्त मंडलगति से परिक्रमा करते रहते हैं। भगवन् ! जब उन ज्योतिष्क देवों का इन्द्र च्यवता है तब वे देव इन्द्र के विरह में क्या करते हैं ? गौतम ! चार-पांच सामानिक देव सम्मिलित रूप से उस इन्द्र के स्थान पर तब तक कार्यरत रहते हैं तब जक कि दूसरा इन्द्र वहां उत्पन्न हो। भगवन् ! इन्द्र का स्थान कितने समय तक इन्द्र की उत्पत्ति से रहित रहता है ? गौतम ! जघन्य एक समय और उत्कृष्ट छह मास तक इन्द्र का स्थान खाली रहता है।
