[जीवाजीवाभिगमसूत्र से केणठेणं भंते ! एवं वुच्चइ–बाहिरगा णं समुद्दा पुण्णा पुण्णप्पमाणा बोलट्टमाणा वोसट्टमाणा समभरघडियाए चिट्ठति ? गोयमा ! बाहिरएसु णं समुद्देसु बहवे उदगजोणिया जीवा य पोग्गला य उदगत्ताए वक्कमंति विउक्कमति चयंति उपचयंति, से तेणठेणं एवं बुच्चइ बाहिरगा समुद्दा पुण्णा पुण्णप्पमाणा जाव समभरघडताए चिट्ठति / 169. हे भगवन् ! लवणसमुद्र का जल उछलने वाला है या प्रस्तट की तरह स्थिर अर्थात् सर्वतः सम रहने वाला है ? उसका जल क्षुभित होने वाला है या अक्षुभित रहता है ? गौतम ! लवणसमुद्र का जल उछलने वाला है, स्थिर नहीं है, क्षुभित होने वाला है, अक्षुभित रहने वाला नहीं। हे भगवन् ! जैसे लवणसमुद्र का जल उछलने वाला है, स्थिर नहीं है, क्षुभित होने वाला है, अक्षुभित रहने वाला नहीं, वैसे क्या बाहर के समुद्र भी क्या उछलते जल वाले हैं या स्थिर जल वाले, क्षुभित जल वाले हैं या अक्षुभित जल वाले ? गौतम ! बाहर के समुद्र उछलते जल वाले नहीं हैं, स्थिर जल वाले हैं, क्षुभित जल वाले नहीं, अक्षुभित जल वाले हैं। वे पूर्ण हैं, पूरे-पूरे भरे हुए हैं, पूर्ण भरे होने से मानो बाहर छलकना चाहते हैं, विशेष रूप से बाहर छलकना चाहते हैं, लबालब भरे हुए घट की तरह जल से परिपूर्ण हैं / हे भगवन् ! क्या लवणसमुद्र में बहुत से बड़े मेघ सम्मूछिम जन्म के अभिमुख होते हैं, पैदा होते हैं अथवा वर्षा बरसाते हैं ? हां, गौतम ! वहां मेघ होते हैं और वर्षा बरसाते हैं / हे भगवन् ! जैसे लवणसमुद्र में बहुत से बड़े मेघ पैदा होते हैं और वर्षा बरसाते हैं, वैसे बाहर के समुद्रों में भी क्या बहुत से मेघ पैदा होते हैं और वर्षा बरसाते हैं ? हे गौतम ! ऐसा नहीं है। हे भगवन् ! ऐसा क्यों कहा जाता है कि बाहर के समुद्र पूर्ण है, पूरे-पूरे भरे हुए हैं, मानो बाहर छलकना चाहते हैं, विशेष छलकना चाहते हैं और लबालब भरे हुए घट के समान जल से परिपूर्ण हैं ? हे गौतम ! बाहर के समुद्रों में बहुत से उदकयोनि के जीव आते-जाते हैं और बहुत से पुद्गल उदक के रूप में एकत्रित होते हैं, विशेष रूप से एकत्रित होते हैं, इसलिए ऐसा कहा जाता है कि बाहर के समुद्र पूर्ण हैं, पूरे-पूरे भरे हुए हैं यावत् लबालब भरे हुए घट के समान जल से परिपूर्ण हैं। 170. लवणे णं भंते ! समुद्दे केवइयं उध्वेह-परिवुड्डीए पण्णत्ते ? गोयमा ! लवणस्स गं समुदस्स उभओ पासि पंचाणउइं-पंचाणउई बालग्गाइं पदेसे गंता पदेसउव्वेहपरिवुड्डीए पण्णत्ते। पंचाणउई-पंचाणउई बालगं गंता वालग्गं उठवेहपरिवुड्डीए पण्णत्ते। पंचागउइं-पंचाणउई लिक्खाओ गंता लिक्खाउवेहपरिवुट्टीए पण्णत्ते / पंचाणउई जवाओ जवमझे अंगुल
