तृतीय प्रतिपत्ति: जम्बूद्वीपगत चन्द्रद्वीपों का वर्णन] [17 में लवणाधिपति सुस्थित देव का एक विशाल अतिक्रीडावास नाम का भौमेय विहार है जो साढ़े बासठ योजन ऊंचा और सवा इकतोस योजन चोड़ा है, अनेक सौ स्तम्भों पर सन्निविष्ट है, आदि भवन का वर्णनक कहना चाहिए। उस अतिक्रीडावास नामक भौमेय विहार में बहसमरमणीय भूमिभाग है, प्रादि वर्णन करना चाहिए यावत् मणियों का स्पर्श, उस बहुसमरमणीय भूमिभाग के ठीक मध्य में एक मणिपीठिका है। वह मणिपीठिका दो योजन लम्बी-चौडो.एक योजन मोटो और सर्वात्मना मणिमय है. स्वच्छ है प्रतिरूप है / उस मणिपीठिका के ऊपर एक देवशयनीय है / उसका पूर्ववत् वर्णन जानना चाहिए / हे भगवन् ! गौतमद्वीप, गौतमद्वीप क्यों कहलाता है ? गौतम ! गौतमद्वीप में यहां-वहां बहुत से उत्पल कमल आदि हैं जो गौतम (गोमेदरत्न) की आकृति और ग्राभा वाले हैं, इसलिए गौतमद्वोप कहलाता है / यह गौतमद्वीप द्रव्यापेक्षया शाश्वत है / अत: इसका नाम भी शाश्वत होने से अनिमित्तक है।' हे भगवन् ! लवणाधिपति सुस्थित देव को सुस्थिता नाम की राजधानी कहां है ? गौतम ! गौतमद्वीप के पश्चिम में तिरछे असंख्य द्वीप-समुद्रों को पार करने के बाद अन्य लवणसमुद्र में सुस्थिता राजधानी है, जो अन्य लवणसमुद्र में बारह हजार योजन आगे जाने पर पाती है, इत्यादि सब वक्तव्यता गोस्तूप राजधानीवत् जाननी चाहिए यावत् वहां सुस्थित नाम का महद्धिक देव है। जम्बूद्वीपगत चन्द्रद्वीपों का वर्णन 162. कहि णं भंते ! जंबुद्दोवगाणं चंदाणं चंददीवा णामं दीवा पणत्ता? गोयमा ! जंबुद्दीवे दोवे मंदरस्स पव्वयस्स पुरथिमेणं लवणसमुदं बारसजोयणसहस्साई प्रोगाहित्ता एत्थ गं जंबुद्दीवगाणं चंदाणं चंददीवा णामं दीवा पण्णत्ता, जंबुद्दोवंतेणं अद्धकोणणउइ जोयणाई चत्तालोसं पंचाणउइं भागे जोयणस्स ऊसिया जलंतानो, लवणसमुद्देतेणं दो कोसे ऊसिया जलंताओ, बारसजोयणसहस्साई आयामविक्खंभेणं सेसं तं चेव जहा गोयमदोवस्स परिक्खेवो। पउमवरवेइया पत्तेयं-पत्तेयं वणसंडपरिक्खिता, दोहवि वण्णओ, बहुसमरमणिज्जभूमिभागा जाव जोइसिया देवा आसयंति। तेसि णं बहुसमरमणिज्जे भूमिभागे पासायवडेंसगा बावटि जोयणाई बहुमज्झदेसभागे मणिपेढियाओ दो जोयणाइं जाव सोहासणा सपरिवारा भाणियव्वा तहेव अट्ठो; गोयमा ! बहुसु खुडासु खुड्डियासु बहूई उप्पलाइं चंदवण्णाभाई चंदा एत्य देवा महिड्डिया जाव पलिओवमद्वितिया परिवति / ते णं तत्थ पत्तेयं पत्तेयं चउहं सामाणियसाहस्सोणं जाव चंददोवाणं चंदाण य रायहाणोणं 1. वृत्तिकार के अनुसार गौतमद्वीप नाम का कारण शाश्वत होने से अनिमित्तक है। वृत्तिकार पुस्तकान्तर का उल्लेख करते हुए "गोयमदीवे गं दीवे तत्थ-तत्थ तहि तहिं बहई उप्पलाइं जाव सहस्सपत्ताई गोयमपभाई गोयमवग्णाई गोयमवण्णाभाई" इस पाठ का होना मानते हैं।

In Jambudvipa, twelve thousand yojanas east of the Mandara Mountain, in the salt sea, there is the Moon Island, called Chandadvipa. It is forty-nine and a half yojanas wide from the edge of Jambudvipa, and the water is five and a half yojanas deep. The water is two kosas deep in the salt sea. It is twelve thousand yojanas in length and breadth, and its description is like that of Gotamadvipa.

The leaves of the Paumavaraveiya trees are covered with forests, and they are of two colors. There are many beautiful lands, until the gods reside there. In the middle of these beautiful lands, there are jewel platforms, two yojanas wide, and the thrones with their families should be described in the same way.
