तृतीय प्रतिपत्ति: चार प्रकार के संसारसमापन्नक जीव] [195 गौतम ! दूसरी पृथ्वी का नाम वंशा है और गोत्र शर्कराप्रभा है। इस प्रकार सब पृथ्वियों के सम्बन्ध में प्रश्न करने चाहिए। उनके नाम इस प्रकार हैं-तीसरी पृथ्वी का नाम शैला, चौथी पृथ्वी का नाम अंजना, पांचवीं पृथ्वी का नाम रिष्ठा है, छठो पृथ्वी का नाम मघा और सातवीं पृथ्वी का नाम माघवती है / इस प्रकार तीसरी पृथ्वी का गोत्र बालुकाप्रभा, चोथी का पंकप्रभा, पांचवीं का धूमप्रभा, छठी का तमःप्रभा और सातवीं का गोत्र तंमस्तमःप्रभा है। 68. इमा णं भंते ! रयणप्पभापुढवो केवइया वाहल्लेणं पण्णत्ता ? गोयमा ! इमा गं रयणप्पभापुढवी असिउत्तरं जोयणसयसहस्सं बाहल्लेणं पण्णत्ता, एवं एतेणं अभिलावेणं इमा गाहा अणुगंतव्वा असीयं बत्तीसं अट्ठावीसं तहेव बीसं य / अट्ठारस सोलसगं अठ्ठत्तरमेव हिटिमिया // 1 // [68] भगवन् ! यह रत्नप्रभापृथ्वी कितनी मोटी कही गई है ? गौतम ! यह रत्नप्रभापृथ्वी एक लाख अस्सी हजार योजन मोटी है / इसी प्रकार शेष पृथ्वियों की मोटाई इस गाथा से जानना चाहिए ___ 'प्रथम पृथ्वी की मोटाई एक लाख अस्सी हजार योजन की है। दूसरी की मोटाई एक लाख बत्तीस हजार योजन की है। तीसरी की मोटाई एक लाख अट्ठाईस हजार योजन की है / चौथी की मोटाई एक लाख बीस हजार योजन की है। पांचवीं की मोटाई एक लाख अठारह हजार योजन को है। छठी की मोटाई एक लाख सोलह हजार योजन की है। सातवीं की मोटाई एक लाख आठ हजार योजन की है। विवेचन-(सं. 65 से 66 तक) पूर्व प्रतिपादित दस प्रकार की प्रतिपत्तियों में से जो प्राचार्य संसारसमापनक जीवों के चार प्रकार कहते हैं वे चार गतियों के जीवों को लेकर ऐसा प्रतिपादन करते हैं; यथा-१ नरकगति के नैरयिक जीव, 2 तिर्यंचगति के जीव, 3 मनुष्यगति के जीव और 4 देवगति के जीव / ऐसा कहे जाने पर सहज जिज्ञासा होती है कि नैरयिक आदि जीव कहाँ रहते हैं, उनके निवास रूप नरकभूमियों के नाम, गोत्र, विस्तार आदि क्या और कितने हैं ? नरकभूमियों और नारकों के विषय में विविध जानकारी इन सूत्रों में और आगे के सूत्रों में दी गई है / सर्वप्रथम नारक जीवों के प्रकार को लेकर प्रश्न किया गया है। उसके उत्तर में कहा गया है कि नारक जीव सात प्रकार के हैं। सात नरकभूमियों की अपेक्षा से नारक जीवों के सात प्रकार बताये हैं, जैसे कि प्रथमपृथ्वीनैरयिक से लगा कर सप्तमपृथ्वीनैरयिक तक। इसके पश्चात् नरकपृथ्वियों के नाम और गोत्र को लेकर प्रश्न और उत्तर हैं। नाम और गोत्र में अन्तर यह है कि नाम अनादिकालसिद्ध होता है और अन्वर्थरहित होता है अर्थात् नाम में उसके अनुरूप गुण होना आवश्यक नहीं है, जबकि गोत्र गुणप्रधान होता है / सात पृथ्चियों के नाम और गोत्र इस प्रकार हैं

The fourth earth is one lakh twenty thousand yojanas thick. The fifth earth is one lakh eighteen thousand yojanas thick. The sixth earth is one lakh sixteen thousand yojanas thick. The seventh earth is one lakh eight thousand yojanas thick."
