[निशीथसूत्र अर्थात् जो समगोलाकार हो वह वापी, जो चौकोर हो वह पुष्करिणी, जो लम्बी हो वह दीर्घिका कहलाती है और मंडलाकार स्थित अन्यान्य कपाटसंयुक्त गुजालिया कहलाती है। ये बावडियों के ही प्रकार हैं।
ग्रामादि के चार सूत्र हैं, उन सभी शब्दों के अर्थ पांचवें उद्देशक में कर दिये गये हैं । पाठक वहाँ से मूल पाठ व अर्थ समझ लें।
प्रास-सिक्खावणं-पासकरणं, एवं सेसाणि वि-अश्व आदि को शिक्षा देने का स्थान ।
युद्धसंबंधी सूत्र में "मिढ (मेंढा) शब्द और अहि (सर्प) शब्द अधिक हैं। शेष शब्द शिक्षित करने के सूत्र के समान समझना ।
कविंजल-कपिरिव जवते ईषत् पिंगलो वा । कमनीयं शब्दं पिंजयति–चातक पक्षी। ६. जूहिय–यहां चूर्णिकार ने तीन शब्द करके अर्थ किये हैं१. उज्जूहिय, २. निज्जूहिय, ३. मिहुज्जूहिय । यहाँ तीसरा अर्थ प्रासंगिक लगता है -
वधू-वर-परिआणं, वधु-वरादिकं तत्स्थानं, वेदिकादि । एवं हय-गय-यूथादि स्थानानिविवाहमंडप आदि।
अन्य प्रकार से व्याख्या
गोसंखडी उज्जूहिगा भन्नति, गावीणं णिवेढणा परियाणादि णिज्जूहिगा (भन्नति) गावीओ उज्जूहिताओ अडविहुत्तिओ उज्जुहिज्जंति ।
इसका अर्थ विद्वान् पाठक स्वयं समझने का प्रयत्न करें।
सेना से चूर्णिकार ने चार प्रकार के सेना-समुदाय का संग्रह किया है तथा वध के लिए ले जाते हुए चोर आदि का निर्देश भी व्याख्या में किया है । आचारांगसूत्र में वैसा पाठ भी उपलब्ध है किन्तु निशीथसूत्र के मूल पाठ में वह वाक्य नहीं मिलता है।
अक्खाणगादि आघाइयं, आख्यायिकास्थानानि-कथानकस्थानानि - कथा के स्थान ।
कलह, डिब, डमर ये सभी क्लेश के प्रकार हैं । 'महायुद्ध' तथा 'महासंग्राम' ये लड़ाई के प्रकार हैं । आचारांग व निशीथ में इस सूत्र के विवेचन में केवल एक "कलह" शब्द का ही निर्देश है। किन्तु प्रतियों में भिन्न-भिन्न पाठ मिलते हैं। निशीथसूत्र व आचारांगसूत्र में उपलब्ध अन्य शब्द ये हैं
१. खाराणि वा, २. वेराणि वा, ३. बोलाणि वा, ४. दो रज्जाणि वा, ५. वैरज्जाणि वा, ६. विरुद्ध-रज्जाणि वा।
प्रारम्भ के तीन शब्द निशीथ में और अंतिम तीन शब्द आचारांग में अधिक मिलते हैं, इनमें से बोलाणि का समावेश कलहाणि में हो जाता है। शेष पांच भावात्मक हैं । स्थल विषयक सूत्रोक्त विषय में इनकी संगति न होने से तथा भाष्य, चूणि में भी न होने से इन शब्दों को मूल में नहीं रखा है।
