[ निशीथसूत्र
साध्वी को संख्या की अपेक्षा से चार चादर रखना कल्पता है । प्रमाण अर्थात् नाप की अपेक्षा से तीन प्रमाण वाली [ ४ हाथ, ३ हाथ, २ हाथ ] चादर रखना कल्पता है ।

ये चादरें एक खंड वाली या अनेक खंड वाली भी हो सकती हैं । एक खंड वाली में सिलाई करने की आवश्यकता नहीं होती है, किन्तु अनेक खंड वाली में सिलाई करने की या सिलाई करवाने Sataraता होती है । अतः प्रस्तुत सूत्र में अनेक वस्त्रखंड जोड़ कर बनाई जाने वाली चादर काही अधिकार है ।
भिक्षु या भिक्षुणी सिलाई का आवश्यक कार्य स्वतः ही कर सकते हैं । कोई करने वाला न हो तो परिस्थितिवश गीतार्थ की प्राज्ञा से वे परस्पर करवा सकते हैं ।
किसी समय समीपस्थ भिक्षु या भिक्षुणी कोई भी सिलाई का कार्य न कर सके तब वे स्वयं गृहस्थ से सिलवायें तो उद्देशक ५ सू. १२ के अनुसार लघुमासिक प्रायश्चित्त प्राता है । किन्तु साध्वी की चादर साधु गृहस्थ के द्वारा सिलवावे तो प्रस्तुत सूत्र के अनुसार लघुचौमासी प्रायश्चित्त आता है ।
गृहस्थ से वस्त्र सिलवाना भी साधु की मर्यादा में नहीं है तथापि साध्वी की चादर सिलवाने में और भी अन्य दोषों की सम्भावना रहती है । यथा ----
ने वाला गृहस्थ पूछ भी सकता है कि किसकी चादर है ? सही उत्तर देने से जानकारी होने पर वशीकरण प्रयोग कर सकता है, साधु के ब्रह्मचर्य में शंकित होकर गलत प्रचार कर सकता है । अतः ऐसा नहीं करना ही उत्तम है ।
गृहस्थ से सिलवाना आवश्यक होने पर नीचे लिखे क्रम से विवेकपूर्वक करवाना चाहिये
भाष्य गाथा -- "पच्छाकड, साभिग्गह, णिरभिग्गह, भद्दए य असण्णी । गिहि अण्णतित्थिएण वा, गिहि पुव्वं एतरे पच्छा ॥
इस गाथा के अर्थ का स्पष्टीकरण उद्देशक १ सूत्र १५ के विवेचन में किया गया है
ठाणांग प्र. ४ सू. ५९ एवं प्राचा. श्रु. २ . ५ उ. १ में साध्वी को ४ चादर रखने का तथा उसके प्रमाण का कथन है । आचारांगसूत्र में यह भी कहा गया है कि उक्त प्रमाण का वस्त्र न मिले तो कम प्रमाण वाले वस्त्र खंडों को परस्पर जोड़कर उक्त प्रमाण वाली चादर बना लेनी चाहिये । अतः ऐसी स्थिति में सिलाई करना या करवाना आवश्यक हो जाता है, तब सूत्राज्ञा का ध्यान रखकर प्रवृत्ति करने पर प्रायश्चित्त नहीं प्राता है ।
