[Antakrddasa "Devanuppriye! The fact is that we are six brothers, the sons of Naga Gathapati of the city of Bhaddilapura and his wife Sulasa. We are exactly alike in appearance, just like the celestial being Nalakubara. After listening to the religious teachings of the Arihanta Arishtanemi, we became distressed by the fear of the worldly existence and terrified of birth and death, and we got our heads shaved and took the vows of the Sramana Dharma. On the very day we took the vows, we paid obeisance and reverence to the Arihanta Arishtanemi, and while doing so, we requested his permission in this manner - "O Lord! With your permission, we wish to wander, engaging our souls in the austerity of the vow of Bele-Bele for the rest of our lives." The Lord said, "Devaanupriya! Do as you find happiness, but do not be negligent."
After obtaining the permission of the Arihanta Arishtanemi, we started wandering, constantly engaged in the austerity of the Bele-Bele vow for the rest of our lives. And so, today, we six brothers have come to your house after performing Svadhyaya in the first Prahara, meditation in the second Prahara, and obtaining the command of the Arihanta Arishtanemi in the third Prahara, and wandering for alms in the three Sanghataka, both the high and low, and the middle classes. Devaanupriya! It is not the case that the two monks who had come to your house earlier are the same as us. We are different. Those monks told Devaki Devi this and then left in the same direction from which they had come.
Vivechana - Due to the similarity in appearance and form, Devaki was mistaken in thinking that the third group of ascetic monks who came to her house for alms was the same as the earlier pair, since the disciplined monks do not visit the house of a householder repeatedly for a specific alms. In this sutra, the ascetic monks have clarified Devaki's doubt.
The clarification by the ascetic monks has created a new turmoil in Devaki's mind, which the author of the sutra describes further, narrating the identification of the sons.
10- Then Devaki Devi had this thought arise in her mind - "Indeed, I had eight sons born to me in Paurasapura, exactly alike, just like Nalakubara. But no other mothers have given birth to such similar sons. This is impossible. It is clearly visible that other mothers too have given birth to sons exactly alike, just like the shining blue lotus, jasmine, and golden flowers, with auspicious marks, adorned with flower garlands and earrings, just like Nalakubara." Thinking thus, she went to pay obeisance and reverence to the Arihanta Arishtanemi, and after doing so, she requested this kind of statement - "With horns marked by auspicious signs, adorned with garlands of Jambunada gold, wearing excellent celestial ornaments of bells and ropes, surrounded by a network of various precious gem bells, accompanied by excellent young cows, this excellent, well-crafted, praised, and skillfully made twin pair of ropes..."
