[अन्तकृद्दशा कर इसकी व्याख्या इस प्रकार की है—'स्मृतं पूर्वकाले ज्ञातं सत् कथनावसरे स्मृतं भविष्यति'- इस व्याख्या से भाव यह होगा कि सोमिल ब्राह्मण ने विचार किया कि भगवान् अरिष्टनेमि ने गजसुकुमाल की मृत्यु-घटना को घटित होते समय ही स्वयं के ज्ञान से देख लिया होगा, और श्रीकृष्ण के आगमन पर उन्हें इसका स्मरण हुआ ही होगा। दूसरा श्रुत अर्थ लेने पर इसकी व्याख्या होगी-"श्रुतमेतद् अर्हता कस्मादपि देवविशेषाद्वा भगवता श्रुतं भविष्यति" अर्थात् सोमिल ब्राह्मण सोचता है- श्री कृष्ण वासुदेव ने मुनि गजसुकुमाल का मृत्यु-वृत्तान्त भगवान् द्वारा अथवा किसी देव विशेष द्वारा सुन लिया होगा। शिष्ट शब्द का अर्थ होता है - कह दिया। भाव यह है कि भगवान् अरिष्टनेमि ने वासुदेव कृष्ण को गजसुकुमाल की मृत्यु का वृत्तान्त कह दिया होगा। सोमिल-शव की दुर्दशा

___"एस णं भो! देवाणुप्पिया! से सोमिले माहणे अपत्थिय-पत्थिए जाव' परिवजिए, जेणं ममं सहोयरे कणीयसे भायरे गयसुकुमाले अणगारे अकाले चेव जीवियाओ ववरोविए त्ति कटु" सोमिलं माहणं पाणेहिं कड्ढावेइ, कड्डावेत्ता तं भूमिं पाणिएणं अब्भोक्खावेइ, अब्भोक्खावेत्ता जेणेव सए गिहे तेणेव उवागए। सयं गिहं अणुप्पवितु।
उस समय सोमिल ब्राह्मण कृष्ण वासुदेव को सहसा सम्मुख देख कर भयभीत हुआ और जहाँ का तहाँ स्तम्भित खड़ा रह गया। वहीं खड़े-खड़े ही स्थितिभेद से अपना आयुष्य पूर्ण हो जाने से सर्वांगशिथिल हो धड़ाम से भूमितल पर गिर पड़ा। उस समय कृष्ण वासुदेव सोमिल ब्राह्मण को गिरता हुआ देखते हैं और देखकर इस प्रकार बोलते हैं -
"अरे देवानुप्रियो! यही वह मृत्यु की इच्छा करने वाला तथा लज्जा एवं शोभा से रहित सोमिल ब्राह्मण है, जिसने मेरे सहोदर छोटे भाई गजसुकुमाल मुनि को असमय में ही काल का ग्रास बना डाला।" ऐसा कहकर कृष्ण वासुदेव ने सोमिल ब्राह्मण के उस शव को चांडालों के द्वारा घसीटवा कर नगर के बाहर फिंकवा दिया और उस शव के स्पर्श वाली भूमि को पानी से धुलवाया। उस भूमि को पानी से धुलवाकर कृष्ण वासुदेव अपने राजप्रासाद में पहुंचे और अपने आगार में प्रविष्ट हुए। निक्षेप
