[२५ किया। [भगवान् महावीर की धर्मदेशना सुनने को उपस्थित परिषद् में ऋषि--द्रष्टा--अतिशय ज्ञानी साधु, मुनि--मौनी या वाक्संयमी साधु यति--चारित्र के प्रति अति यत्नशील श्रमण, देवगण तथा सैकड़ों-सैकड़ों श्रोताओं के समूह उपस्थित थे।]
ओघ बली [अव्यवच्छिन्न या एक समान रहने वाले बल के धारक, अतिबली-अत्यधिक बल-सम्पन्न, महाबली,--प्रशस्त बलयुक्त, अपरिमित--असीम वीर्य--आत्मशक्तिजनित बल, तेज, महत्ता तथा कांतियुक्त, शरत्काल के नूतन मेघ के गर्जन, क्रोंच पक्षी के निर्घोष तथा नगाड़े की ध्वनि के समान मधुर गम्भीर स्वर युक्त भगवान् महावीर ने हृदय में विस्तृत होती हुई, कंठ में अवस्थित होती हुई तथा मूर्धा में परिव्याप्त होती सुविभक्त अक्षरों को लिए हुए--पृथक्-पृथक् स्व-स्व स्थानीय उच्चारणयुक्त अक्षरों सहित, अस्पष्ट उच्चारण वर्जित या हकलाहट से रहित, सुव्यक्त अक्षर-सन्निपात--वर्ण-संयोग-वों की व्यवस्थित श्रृंखला लिए हुए, पूर्णता तथा स्वर--माधुरीयुक्त, श्रोताओं की सभी भाषाओं में परिणत होने वाली वाणी द्वारा एक योजन तक पहुँचने वाले स्वर में, अर्द्धमागधी भाषा में धर्म का परिकथन किया। उपस्थित सभी आर्य-अनार्य जनो को अग्लान भाव से--बिना परिश्रान्त हुए धर्म का आख्यान किया। भगवान् द्वारा उद्गीर्ण अर्द्धमागधी भाषा उन सभी आर्यों और अनार्यों की भाषाओं में परिणत हो गई।
भगवान् ने जो धर्मदेशना दी, वह इस प्रकार है--
लोक का अस्तित्व है, अलोक का अस्तित्व है। इसी प्रकार जीव, अजीव, बन्ध, मोक्ष, पुण्य, पाप, आस्रव, संवर, वेदना, निर्जरा, अर्हत, चक्रवर्ती बलदेव, वासुदेव, नरक, नैरयिक, तिर्यंच्योनि, तिर्यंचयोनिक जीव, माता, पिता, ऋषि , देव देवलोक, सिद्धि, सिद्ध, परिनिर्वाण--कर्मजनित आवरण के क्षीण होने से आत्मिक स्वस्थता--परम शान्ति, परिनिर्वृत्त--परिनिर्वाण युक्त व्यक्ति--इनका अस्तित्व है। प्राणातिपात--हिंसा, मृषावाद--असत्य, अदत्तादान--चोरी, मैथुन, और परिग्रह हैं।
क्रोध, मान, माया, लोभ, [प्रेम--अप्रकट माया व लोभजनित प्रिय या रोचक भाव, द्वेष-- अव्यक्त मान व क्रोध जनित अप्रिय या अप्रीति रूप भाव, कलह--लड़ाई-झगड़ा, अभ्याख्यान--मिथ्या दोषारोपण, पैशुन्य--चुगली अथवा पीठ पीछे किसी के होते-अनहोते दोषों का प्रकटीकरण, परपरिवाद--निन्दा, रति--मोहनीय कर्म के उदय के परिणाम-स्वरूप असंयम में सुख मानना, रूचि दिखाना, अरति--मोहनीय कर्म के उदय के परिणाम-स्वरूप संयम में अरूचि रखना, मायामृषा-- माया या छलपूर्वक झूठ बोलना,] यावत् मिथ्यादर्शन शल्य है।
