[२३३ क्रोध से रहित थे, परिमित मंजुल वचनालाप और मृदु हास्य से युक्त थे। गम्भीर, मधुर और परिपूर्ण सत्य वचन बोलते थे। अधीनता स्वीकार करने वालों पर वात्सल्य भाव रखते थे। शरण में आनेवाले के रक्षक थे। वज्र, स्वस्तिक, चक्र आदि लक्षणों से और तिल, मसा आदि व्यंजनों के गुणों से संयुक्त थे। शरीर के मान, उन्मान और प्रमाण से परिपूर्ण थे, वे जन्म-जात सर्वाङ्ग सुन्दर शरीर के धारक थे। चन्द्र के सौम्य आकार वाले, कान्त और प्रियदर्शन थे। 'अमसृण' अर्थात् कर्त्तव्य-पालन में आलस्य-रहित थे अथवा 'अमर्षण' अर्थात् अपराध करनेवालों पर भी क्षमाशील थे। उदंड पुरुषों पर प्रचण्ड दण्डनीति के धारक थे। गम्भीर और दर्शनीय थे। बलदेव ताल वृक्ष के चिह्नवाली ध्वजा के और वासुदेव गरुड के चिह्नवाली ध्वजा के धारक थे। वे दशारमण्डल कर्ण-पर्यन्त महाधनुषों को खींचनेवाले, महासत्त्व (बल) के सागर थे। रणभूमि में उनके प्रहार का सामना करना अशक्य था। वे महान् धनुषों के धारक थे, पुरुषों में धीर-वीर थे, युद्धों में प्राप्त कीर्ति के धारक पुरुष थे, विशाल कुलों में उत्पन्न हुए थे, महारत्न वज्र (हीरा) को भी अंगूठे और तर्जनी दो अंगुलियों से चूर्ण कर देते थे। आधे भरत क्षेत्र के अर्थात् तीन खण्ड के स्वामी थे। सौम्यस्वभावी थे। राजकुलों और राजवंशों के तिलक थे। अजित थे (किसी से भी नहीं जीते जाते थे),
और अजितरथ (अजेय रथ वाले) थे। बलदेव हल और मूशल रूप शस्त्रों के धारक थे, तथा वासुदेव • शार्ङ्ग धनुष, पाञ्चजन्य शंख, सुदर्शन चक्र, कौमोदकी गदा, शक्ति और नन्दक नामा खङ्ग के धारक थे। प्रवर, उज्ज्वल, सुकान्त, विमल कौस्तुभ मणि युक्त मुकुट के धारी थे। उनका मुख कुण्डलों में लगे मणियों के प्रकाश से युक्त रहता था। कमल के समान नेत्र वाले थे। एकावली हार कण्ठ से लेकर वक्षःस्थल तक शोभित रहता था। उनका वक्षःस्थल श्रीवत्स के सलक्षण से चिह्नित था। वे विश्वविख्या यश वाले थे। सभी ऋतुओं में उत्पन्न होने वाले, सुगन्धित पुष्पों से रची गई, लंबी, शोभायुक्त, कान्त, विकसित, पंचवर्णी श्रेष्ठ माला से उनका वक्षःस्थल सदा शोभायमान रहता था। उनके सुन्दर अंग-प्रत्यंग एक सौ आठ प्रशस्त लक्षणों से सम्पन्न थे। वे मद-मत्त गजराज के समान ललित, विक्रम और विलासयुक्त गति वाले थे। शरदऋतु के नव-उदित मेघ के समान मधुर, गम्भीर, क्रौंच पक्षी के निर्घोष और दुन्दुभि के समान स्वर वाले थे। बलदेव कटिसूत्र वाले नील कौशेयक वस्त्र से तथा वासुदेव कटिसूत्र वाले पीत कौशेयक वस्त्र से युक्त रहते थे (बलदेवों की कमर पर नीले रंग का और वासुदेव की कमर पर पीले रंग का दुपट्टा बंधा रहता था।) वे प्रकृष्ट दीप्ति और तेज से युक्त थे, प्रबल बलशाली होने से वे मनुष्यों में सिंह के समान होने से नरसिंह, मनुष्यों के पति होने से नरपति, परम ऐश्वर्यशाली होने से नरेन्द्र तथा सर्वश्रेष्ठ होने से नर-वृषभ कहलाते थे। अपने कार्य-भार का पूर्ण रूप से निर्वाह करने से वे मरुद्वृषभकल्प अर्थात् देवराज की उपमा को धारण करते थे। अन्य राजा-महाराजाओं से अधिक राजतेज रूप लक्ष्मी से देदीप्यमान थे। इस प्रकार नील-वसनवाले नौ राम (बलदेव) और नव पीत-वसनवाले केशव (वासुदेव) दोनों भाई-भाई हुए हैं। १. जल से भरी द्रोणी (नाव) में बैठने पर उससे बाहर निकला जल यदि द्रोण (माप-विशेष) प्रमाण हो तो वह पुरुष
