[२१३ ६०५- सीया य दव्व सारीर साया तह वेयणा भवे दुक्खा ।
अब्भुवगमवक्कमिया णीयाए चेव अणियाए ॥१॥ वेदना के विषय के शीत, द्रव्य, शारीर, साता, दुःखा, आभ्युपगमिकी, औपक्रमिकी, निदा और अनिदा इतने द्वार ज्ञातव्य हैं ॥१॥
६०६-नेरइया णं भंते! किं सीतं वेयणं वेयंति, उसिणं वेयणं वेयंति, सीतोसिणं वेयणं वेयंति? गोयमा! नेरइया० एवं चेव वेयणापदं भाणियव्वं ।
भगवन् ! नारकी क्या शीतवेदना वेदन करते हैं,उष्णवेदना वेदन करते हैं अथवा शीतोष्णवेदना वेदन करते हैं?
गौतम ! नारकी शीतवेदना वेदन करते हैं, इस प्रकार से वेदना पद कहना चाहिए।
विवेचन- वेदना के विषय में शीत आदि द्वार जानने के योग्य हैं। मूल में शीत पद के आगे पठित 'च' शब्द से नहीं कही गई प्रतिपक्षी वेदनाओं की सूचना दी गई है। तदनुसार वेदना तीन प्रकार की है— शीतवेदना, उष्णवेदना और शीतोष्णवेदना। नीचे की पृथिवियों के नारकी केवल शीतवेदना का ही अनुभव करते हैं और ऊपर की पृथिवियों के नारकी केवल उष्णवेदना का ही अनुभव करते हैं। शेष तीन गति के जीव शीतवेदना का भी, उष्णवेदना का भी, और शीतोष्णवेदना का भी वेदन करते हैं।
'द्रव्य' द्वार में द्रव्य पद के साथ, क्षेत्र, काल और भाव भी सूचित किये गये हैं। अर्थात् वेदना चार प्रकार की है-द्रव्यवेदना-जो पुद्गल द्रव्य के सम्बन्ध से वेदन की जाती है, क्षेत्रवेदना-जो नारक आदि उपपात क्षेत्र के सम्बन्ध से वेदन की जाती है, कालवेदना-जो नारक आदि के आयु-काल के सम्बन्ध से नियत काल तक भोगी जाती है। जो वेदनीय कर्म के उदय से वेदना भोगी जाती है, उसे भाववेदना कहते हैं। नारकों से लेकर वैमानिक देवों तक सभी जीव चारों प्रकार की वेदनाओं को वेदन करते हैं।
' 'शारीर' द्वार की अपेक्षा वेदना तीन प्रकार की कही गई है- शारीरी, मानसी और शारीरमानसी। कोई वेदना केवल शारीरिक होती है, कोई केवल मानसिक होती है और कोई दोनों से सम्बद्ध होती है। सभी संज्ञी पंचेन्द्रिय चारों गति के जीव तीनों ही प्रकार की वेदनाओं को भोगते हैं। किन्तु एकेन्द्रिय से लेकर असंज्ञी पंचेन्द्रिय तक के जीव केवल शारीरी वेदना को ही भोगते हैं।
'साता' द्वार की अपेक्षा वेदना तीन प्रकार की है – साता वेदना, असाता वेदना और साता-असाता वेदना। सभी संसारी जीव तीनों ही प्रकार की वेदनाओं को भोगते हैं।
'दुःख' पद से तीन प्रकार की वेदना सूचित की गई है -सुखवेदना, दुःखवेदना और सुखदुःखवेदना। सभी चतुर्गति के जीव इन तीनों ही प्रकार की वेदनाओं का अनुभव करते हैं।
