thought and action of a destructive human mind places various barrier on the way. The remark of Martin Luthar King that "We have guided missiles but mis-guided persons.' highlights the need of rightly guided persons for the attainment of holistic peaceful world order.
It is the height of human foolishness that it is wasting the resources on armament for human destruction which can be used for the elavation and upliftment of the human race. The ongoing arms race at the global levels gives an impression that human beings are leading towards suicide. It has been estimated that our modern world has already manufactured more than twenty thousand megaton atom bombs, while only one hundred megaton atom bombs are sufficient to reduce this earth to ashes. The way nations continue to spend huge amount on military preparations leads one to wonder whether mankind has decided to give top priority to the programmes of annihilating life on the planet earth. Two-third of mankind is still living in a very pitiable condition. Millions of people are still halfclad and half-fed. The problems of poverty and ill-health are so widespread that they require great effort for their eradication.
It is a historical fact that the institution of state was invented by man for the protection of human society. But, at present many states have forgotten this objective and revel in manufacturing deadly arms. This makes it clear that there is an urgent necessity of presenting the constructive thought of Lord Buddha and Lord Mahavira before the modern world when the whole world is virtually sitting on the volcano of atomic destruction.
Modern man has definately achieved a remarkable success in the domain of scientific development. He has visited the surface of the moon and hopes to land on the surface of other planets. We need not recount the manifold achievements of man in this direction. When we talk about these human achievements our hearts are filled with rare optimism and rare pride for mankind. But the very next moment when we reflect a little we realize that man has in his zest for inventions and equally strong zest for establishing mastery over the distant lands of the earth and with a strong desire to rule over other nations and people has brought his doom very near. It appears that he is running fast in the direction of self-annihilation. २२८ . व्रात्य दर्शन
