4 wise always despise and avoid them. They (mundane pleasures) extend 45 4 the cycles of rebirth (samsaar) and bear bitter fruits. Like a burning
bundle of hay they are difficult to get rid of and extremely distressing. They are the biggest hurdles on the road to salvation. Who knows which one of us will die first and who later? ... and so on up to... As such, O parents! With your permission I want get initiated into the ascetic order.”
विवेचन : उक्त कथन से पता चलता है, मानवीय कामभोगों के प्रति जमालि के मन में कितनी गहरी विरक्ति हो गई थी और उसने उनकी असारता भलीभाँति समझ ली थी।
Elaboration - This statement conveys the intensity of repulsion for mundane pleasures in Jamali's mind. He had fully understood the worthlessness of the same.
४१. (माता-पिता) तए णं तं जमालिं खत्तियकुमारं अम्मापियरो एवं वयासी-इमे य ते जाया ! अज्जय-पज्जय-पिउपज्जयागए सबहहिरण्णे य सवण्णे य कंसे य दसे य विउलधणकणग० जाव, संतसारसावएज्जे अलाहि जाव आसत्तमाओ कुलवंसाओ पकामं दातुं, पकामं भोत्तुं, पकामं परिभाएउं, तं
अणुहोहि ताव जाया ! विउले माणुस्सए इडिसक्कारसमुदए, तओ पच्छा अणुहूयकल्लाणे वडियकुलवंसतंतु । जाव पव्वइहिसि।
४१. तदनन्तर क्षत्रियकुमार जमालि से माता-पिता ने इस प्रकार कहा- 'हे पुत्र ! तेरे पितामह, । प्रपितामह और पिता के प्रपितामह से प्राप्त यह बहुत-सा हिरण्य, सुवर्ण, कांस्य, उत्तम वस्त्र (दूष्य),
विपुल धन, कनक यावत् सारभूत द्रव्य विद्यमान है। यह द्रव्य इतना है कि सात पीढ़ी (कुलवंश) तक प्रचुर (मुक्त हस्त से) दान दिया जाय, पुष्कल भोगा जाय और बहुत-सा बाँटा जाय, तो भी पर्याप्त है ॥ (समाप्त नहीं हो सकता)। अतः हे पत्र ! मनुष्य-सम्बन्धी इस विपल ऋद्धि और सत्कार (सत्कार्य) समुदाय का अनुभव कर। फिर इस कल्याण (सुखरूप पुण्यफल) का अनुभव करके और कुलवंशतन्तु की वृद्धि करने के पश्चात् यावत् तू प्रव्रजित हो जाना।
41. The parents persisted, “There is abundant wealth including silver, gold, bronze, fine cloth, ... and so on up to... valuable things inherited
from your grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. It i is enough to last seven generations even if generously donated, spent or i distributed. Therefore, son, you should humanly experience and enjoy i this vast wealth and honour. Having experienced this beatitude and siring heirs for the family you may go and get initiated.” धन वैभव की नश्वरता TRANSIENCE OF WEALTH AND GRANDEUR
४२. (जमालि) तए णं से जमाली खत्तियकुमारे अम्मा-पियरो एवं वयासी-तहा वि णं तं अम्म ! ताओ ! जं णं तुब्भे ममं एवं वदह-'इमे य ते जाया ! अज्जग-पज्जग० जाव पव्वइहिसि' एवं खलु अम्म!
