should behave according to the directive commands of accomplished ascetics (Ajna-vyavahaar). In absence of directive commands he should behave according to his own interpretation of directive commands given in the past (Dhaarana-vyavahaar). In absence of such guiding precedence he should behave according to the tradition followed by accomplished ascetics (Jeet-vyavahaar). This way, depending on one's access to any of these five in the said order of priority, an ascetic (male or female) should follow ascetic-behaviour based on these five-Agam, Shrut, Ajna, Dhaarana and Jeet.
९. [प्र. ] से किमाहु भंते ! आगमबलिया समणा निग्गंथा ?
[उ. ] इच्चेयं पंचविहं ववहारं जया जया जहिं जहिं तया तया तहिं तहिं अणिस्सिओवस्सितं सम्म ववहरमाणे समणे निग्गंथे आणाए आराहए भवइ।
९. [ प्र. ] भगवन् ! आगमबलिक श्रमण निर्ग्रन्थ (पूर्वोक्त व्यवहार के विषय में) क्या कहते हैं ? ।
[उ. ] (गौतम !) इस प्रकार इन पंचविध व्यवहारों में से जब-जब और जहाँ-जहाँ जो व्यवहार सम्भव हो, तब-तब और वहाँ-वहाँ उससे, अनिश्रितोपाश्रित (राग और द्वेष से रहित यश-लिप्सा, पदलिप्सा, शिष्यों का पक्षपात या बदले की भावना आदि से मुक्त तटस्थ रहकर) होकर सम्यक् प्रकार से व्यवहार करता हुआ श्रमण निर्ग्रन्थ (तीर्थंकरों की) आज्ञा का आराधक होता है।
9. (Q.) Bhante ! What the Shraman Nirgranths (ascetics) endowed with the knowledge of the canon (Agam-balik) say (about this)? ___[Ans.] (Gautam !) A Shraman Nirgranth (ascetic) who, becoming anishritopashrit (free of attachment and aversion, devoid of hankering for fame and status and away from feelings of partiality and revenge), properly employs one or the other of the five aforesaid (code of) asceticbehaviour, wherever whichever is applicable, is said to be the true follower of the order (of the Tirthankar).
विवेचन : निर्ग्रन्थ के लिए आचरणीय पंचविध व्यवहार एवं उनकी मर्यादा-प्रस्तुत दो सूत्रों में साधु-साध्वी के लिए साधु जीवन में उपयोगी पंचविध व्यवहारों तथा उनकी मर्यादा का निरूपण किया गया है।
पंचविध व्यवहार का स्वरूप-(१) आगम-व्यवहार-केवलज्ञान, मनःपर्यायज्ञान, अवधिज्ञान, चौदह पूर्व, दस पूर्व और नौ पूर्व का ज्ञान ‘आगम' कहलाता है। (२) श्रुत-व्यवहार-शेष आचारप्रकल्प आदि ज्ञान 'श्रुत' कहलाता है। यद्यपि पूर्वो का ज्ञान भी श्रुतरूप है, तथापि अतीन्द्रिय विषयक विशिष्ट ज्ञान का कारण एवं सातिशय होने से उसे 'आगम' की कोटि में रखा गया है। (३) आज्ञा-व्यवहार-दो गीतार्थ साधु अलग-अलग
दूर देश में विचरते हैं, उनमें से एक का जंघाबल क्षीण हो जाने से विहार करने में असमर्थ हो जाये. वह ॐ दूरस्थ गीतार्थ साधु के पास अगीतार्थ साधु के माध्यम से अपने अतिचार या दोष आगम की सांकेतिक गूढ़
होता है।
