on the sūtras of Kaņāda. It has twice been referred to by Mallavadin as we learn from Sinhasuri's Nyayagamanusarini..
___ The first passage relates to VS. IX. 1. 12. while the second is an advocacy in favour of the Vaiseșika theory of asctkāryavada against the Jaina theory of sadsadvala. Needless to say that Mallavādin would elaborately refute these views in support of the Jain contention. He quotes a few more observations of his opponent in this connection. It seems that all these come from the selfsame Katanlî though Simhasūri offers no help here. One passage among these deserves particular mention”. Mallavādin records an interesting point that the passage निष्ठासंवन्धयोरेककालत्वात् along with the Bhasya on it, had to be reconsidered by Prasasta. The amended explanation of this Prag'asta also is quoted and refuted". The passage in question is called a Vakya. Subsequent references show that this Vākya was also a commentary on the Vais'eșikasutras. The Vakya and the Kațandi are different from each other. The former seems to have been written in the
