पुत्र को अपनी कुल-परम्परा में स्थापित कर राजा ने (प्रजापाल ने) भी मुनिव्रत ले लिये। कनकमाला आदि इन्द्रियोंवाला वह क्या काम देखेगा? अरे, वृद्धों को कुछ भी काम नहीं देना चाहिए। वह हम लोगों की देवियाँ भी संन्यास लेकर स्थित हो गयीं। और भी जो परिजन थे वे भी प्रबजित हो गये। जो कोमलमति के भुकुटियों के बीच दृष्टिपथ में न आये। वह सेठ तबतक अपने घर में रहे । राजा भी कुमार था और मन्त्री लोग थे वे सब सगर्व घर में रह गये। कुबेरमित्र नाम का एक बूढ़ा मन्त्री ही ऐसा था जो तरुणों के लिए भी कुमार था। दीन भी व्यक्ति यौवन में विकारशील होता है। तब राजा ने पण्डितों की परम्परा को देखनेवाले शत्रु के समान था।
वृद्ध मन्त्री को घर आने से मना कर दिया। अपरिपक्व बुद्धि और क्रीड़ा करने के स्वभाववाला वह राजाधिराज घत्ता-कुमति चपलमति (तरुण) कहता है कि न हम हँस पाते हैं और न खेल पाते हैं। वृद्धावस्था शिशुमन्त्रियों के साथ दूसरे दिन नन्दनवन में प्रविष्ट हुआ। वहाँ उसने लाल कान्तिवाला बावड़ी-जल देखा। को प्राप्त यह अप्रशस्त मनुष्य क्षुब्ध होता है ।। २५ ॥
