मेरा मुख देखने से क्या, जीवितों को पानी देने से क्या? ओ आओ और मुझे इस तरह बाहुयुद्ध दो जिससे ही कुलीन और मान में महान् पृथ्वी के कारण (लड़ गये)। दोनों ही प्रधान और महाबल-मल्ल। दोनों ही दोनों का अन्तर स्पष्ट हो जाये।" तब जिनपुत्र बाहुबलि बोला-"तुम व्यर्थ बोलते हो, मेरे धनुष-बाण का संकुचित कुण्डलों से अलंकृत कपोल, दोनों ही क्रुद्ध और प्रचण्ड अपने बाहु फैलाये हुए, चिरायु, चन्द्रमा उपहास क्यों करते हो, हे देव, जानते हुए भी तुम व्यर्थ बोलते हो, प्रियविरह से उद्विग्न के समान तुम क्यों के समान प्रसिद्ध नाम, विक्रम से युक्त नराधिप की कामनावाले और समर्थ, लक्ष्मी और रति के आश्रय, नहीं रोते? महिलाओं का साथी मैं स्वजनमार्ग (शयनमार्ग) में हूँ, लेकिन तलवार निकल आनेपर मैं योद्धाओं महारथी आभा से युक्त और सूर्य की तरह तेजस्वी। शंकारहित गरुड़ और मत्स्य के चिह्नवाले, पंक से रहित, का योद्धा हूँ।
