महापुराणे उत्तरपुराणम् न मत्सरेण न क्रोधान ख्यातेर्न फलेच्छया। भटाः केचिदयुध्यन्त न्यायोऽमिति केवलम् ॥ १.५॥ सर्वशस्त्रसमुद्भिशरीरा वीरयोधनाः। परिच्युता गजस्कन्धाञ्चलिकालिङ्गितांघ्रयः॥१०६ ॥ चिरं परिचितस्थानं परित्यक्तुमिवाक्षमाः । प्रलम्बन्ते स्म कर्णाग्रमवलम्ब्यानताननाः ॥ १०७ ॥ केचिद्वामकरोपाराचित्रदण्डस्वरक्षणाः । दक्षिणास्त्रभुजेनानन् भटाश्चटुलचारिणः ॥ १०८ ॥ तत्र वाच्यो मनुष्याणां मृत्योरुत्कृष्टसञ्चयः । कदलीघातजातस्येत्युक्तिमत्तद्रणाङ्गणम् ॥ १०९॥ एवं तुमुलयुद्धन प्रवृत्ते सारे चिरम् । सेनयोरन्तकस्यापि सन्तृप्तिः समजायत ॥ ११०॥ विलहितं बलं विष्णोर्बलेन द्विषतां तथा । यथा क्षुद्र सरिद्वारि महासिन्धुप्लवाम्बुना ॥ १११ ॥ तदालोक्य हरिः ऋद्धो' हरिर्वा करिणां कुलम् । सामन्तबलसन्दोहसहितो हन्तुमुद्यतः ॥ ११२॥ भास्करस्योदयाद्वान्धकारं शत्रुबलं तदा । विलीनं तनिरीक्ष्यैत्य जरासन्धोऽन्वितः क्रधा ॥ ११३॥ योतिताखिलदिक्चक्रं चक्रमादाय विक्रमात् । त्रिविक्रम समुद्दिश्य न्यक्षिपदक्षवीक्षणः ॥ ११४ ॥ तत्तं प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य स्थितवद्दक्षिणे भुजे । तदेवादाय कंसारिर्मगधेशोऽच्छिनच्छिरः ॥ ११५॥ सद्यो जयानकानीकं उनदति स्मागलन् दिवः । सुरद्रुमप्रसूनानि सह गन्धाम्बुबिन्दुभिः ॥ ११६॥ चक्री चक्रं पुरस्कृत्य विजिगीषुर्दिशो भृशम् । प्रस्थानमकरोत्साधं बलेन स्वबलेन च ॥ १७ ॥ मागधादीन्सुरान् जित्वा विधेयीकृत्य विश्रुतान् । गृहीत्वा साररत्नानि तद्दतान्यर्जितोदयः ॥ ११८॥ सिन्धुसिन्धुखगाद्रयन्तरालव्याधधराषिपान् । स्वपादनखभाभारमानमय्योदवाहयन् ॥ ११९ ॥
कितने ही योद्धा न ईयासे, न क्रोधसे, न यशसे, और न फल पानेकी इच्छाले युद्ध करते थे किन्तु 'यह न्याय है' ऐसा सोचकर युद्ध कर रहे थे । १०५ ॥ जिनका शरीर सर्व प्रकारके शस्त्रोंसे छिन्न-भिन्न हो गया है ऐसे कितने ही वीर योद्धा हाथियोंके स्कन्धसे नीचे गिर गये थे परन्तु कानोंके आभरणोंमें पैर फँस जानेसे लटक गये थे जिसप्ते ऐसे जान पड़ते थे मानो वे अपना चिर-परिचित स्थान छोड़ना नहीं चाहते हों और इसीलिए कानोंके अग्रभागका सहारा ले नीचेकी
ओर मुखकर लटक गये हों ।। १०६-१०७ ।। बड़ी चपलताते चलनेवाले कितने ही योद्धा अपने रक्षाकी लिए बायें हाथमें भाल लेकर शस्त्रोंवाली दाहिनी भुजासे शत्रुओंको मार रहे थे ।। १०८ ॥
आगममें जो मनुष्योंका कदलीघात नामका अकालमरण बतलाया गया है उसकी अधिकसे अधिक संख्या यदि हुई थी तो उस युद्धमें ही हुई थी ऐसा उस युद्धके मैदानके विषयमें कहा जाता है ॥१०६।। इस प्रकार दोनों सेनाओंमें चिरकाल तक तुमुल युद्ध होता रहा जिससे यमराज भी खूब सन्तुष्ट हो गया था। ११० ।। तदनन्तर जिस प्रकार किसी छोटी नदीके जलको महानदीके प्रवाहका जल दबा देता है उसी प्रकार श्रीकृष्णकी सेनाको शत्रकी सेनाने दबा दिया ॥ १११॥ यह देख, जिस प्रकार सिंह हाथियोंके समूह पर टूट पड़ता है उसी प्रकार श्रीकृष्ण क्रुद्ध होकर तथा सामन्त राजाओंकी सेनाके समूह साथ लेकर शत्रुको मारनेके लिए उद्यत हो गये-शत्रु पर टूट पड़े ॥ ११२ ।। जिस प्रकार सूर्यका उदय होते ही अन्धकार विलीन हो जाता है उसी प्रकार श्रीकृष्णको देखते ही शत्रों की सेना विलीन हो गई-उसमें भगदड़ मच गई। यह देख, क्रोधसे भरा जरासन्ध श्राया और उसने रूक्ष दृष्टिसे देखकर, अपने पराक्रमसे समस्त दिशाओंको प्रकाशित करनेवाला चक्ररत्न ले श्रीकृष्णकी ओर चलाया ।। ११३-११४ ।। परन्तु वह चक्र प्रदक्षिणा देकर श्रीकृष्णकी दाहिनी भजा पर ठहर गया। तदनन्तर वही चक्र लेकर श्रीकृष्णने मगधेश्वर-जरासन्धका शिर काट डाला ॥ ११५॥ उसी समय कृष्णकी सेनामें जीतके नगाड़े बजने लगे और आकाशसे सुगन्धित जलकी बूंदोंके साथ-साथ कल्पवृक्षोंके फूल बरसने लगे ॥ ११६ ॥ चक्रवर्ती श्रीकृष्णने दिग्विजयकी भारी इच्छाके चक्ररत्न आगे कर बड़े भाई बलदेव तथा अपनी सेनाके साथ प्रस्थान किया ।। ११७ ॥ जिनका उदय बलवान है ऐसे श्रीकृष्णने मागध आदि प्रसिद्ध देवोंको जीत कर अपना सेवक बनाया और उनके द्वारा दिये हुए श्रेष्ठ रत्न ग्रहण किये ॥ ११८ ।। लवण समुद्र सिन्धु नदी और विजया
