महापुराणे उत्तरपुराणम् अष्टाधिकसहस्रेण प्रमितैरमितप्रभैः । हस्ताद्धस्तं क्रमेणामराधिनाथसमपितैः ॥ ४५ ॥ अभिषिच्य यथाकाममलङ्कृत्य यथोचितम् । नेमि सद्धर्मचक्रस्य नेमिनाम्ना तमभ्यधात् ॥ १६ ॥ तस्मादानीय मौलीन्द्रमाननीयमहोदयम् । मातापित्रोः पुनर्दत्वा विधायानन्दनाटकम् ॥ ४७ ॥ विकृत्य विविधान्बाहुन् रसभावनिरन्तरम् । स्वावासमगमत्सरादिमेन्द्रः सहामरैः ॥४८॥ नर्भगवतस्तीर्थसन्तानसमयस्थितेः । पञ्चलक्षसमाप्रान्ते तदन्तर्गतजीवितः ॥ १९॥ जिनो नेमिः समुत्पन्नः सहस्राब्दायुरन्वितः । दशचापसमुत्सेधः शस्तसंस्थानसंहतिः ॥ ५० ॥ त्रिलोकनायकाभ्यर्च्यः स्वभ्यर्णीकृतनिर्वृतिः । तस्थौ सुखानि दिव्यानि तस्मिन्ननुभवंश्चिरम् ॥ ५१ ॥ गच्छत्येवं क्षणे वास्य काले बहुतरेऽन्यदा । आत्तवारिपथोद्योगा नष्टदिका वणिक्सुताः॥५२॥ प्राप्य द्वारावती केचित्पुण्यान्मगधवासिनः । राज्यलीलां विलोक्यात्र २विभूतिञ्च सविस्मयाः ॥ ५३ ॥ बहूनि रत्नान्यादाय सारभूतानि तत्पुरात् । गत्वा राजगृहं प्राप्तचक्ररत्नं महीपतिम् ॥ ५ ॥ रलान्युपायनीकृत्य पुरस्कृत्य वणिक्पतिम् । ददृशुः कृतसन्मानस्तानपृच्छत्प्रजेश्वरः॥ ५५ ॥ भो भवद्भिः कुतो लब्धमिदं रत्नकदम्बकम् । उदंशुभिरिवोन्मीलितेक्षणं कौतुकादिति ॥ ५६ ॥ शृणु देव महच्चित्रमेतदस्मद्विलोकितम् । पातालादेत्य वादृष्टपूर्वमुवीमुपस्थितम् ॥ ५७ ॥ सङ्कलीकृतसौधोरुभवनत्वादिवाम्बुधः । फेनराशिस्तदाकारपरिणाममुपागतः ॥ ५८ ॥ अलध्यत्वात्परैः पुण्यं वापरं भरतेशितुः । नेमिस्वामिसमुत्पचिहेतुत्वान्नगरोत्तमम् ॥ ५९॥
सौंपे हुए एवं और सागरके जलसे भरे, सुवर्णमय एक हजार आठ देदीप्यमान कलशोंके द्वारा उनका अभिषेक किया, उन्हें इच्छानुसार यथायोग्य आभूषणे पहिनाये और ये समीचीन धर्मरूपी चक्रकी नेमि हैं-चक्रधारा हैं। इसलिए उन्हें नेमि नामसे सम्बोधित किया। फिर सौधर्मेन्द्रने मुकुटबद्ध इन्द्रोंके द्वारा माननीय महाभ्युदयके धारक भगवानको सुमेरु पर्वतसे लाकर माता-पिताको सौंपा, विक्रिया द्वारा अनेक भुजाएं बनाकर रस और भावसे भरा हुआ आनन्द नामका नाटक किया और यह सब करनेके बाद वह समस्त देवोंके साथ अपने स्थान पर चला गया ॥३६-४८॥ भगवान नमिनाथकी तीर्थपरम्पराके बाद पाँच लाख वर्ष बीत जानेपर नेमि जिनेन्द्र उत्पन्न हुए थे, उनकी आय भी इसी अन्तरालमें शामिल थी, उनकी आयु एक हजार वर्षकी थी, शरीर दश धनुष ऊँचा था, उनके संस्थान और संहनन उत्तम थे, तीनों लोकोंके इन्द्र उनकी पूजा करते थे, और मोक्ष उनके समीप था। इस प्रकार वे दिव्य मुखोंका अनुभव करते हुए चिरकाल तक द्वारावतीमें रहे ॥४-५१ ॥ इस तरह सुखोपभोग करते हुए उनका बहुत भारी समय एक क्षणके समान बीत गया । किसी एक दिन मगध देशके रहनेवाले ऐसे कितने ही वैश्य पुत्र, जो कि जलमार्गसे व्यापार करते थे, पुण्योदयसे मार्ग भूल कर द्वारावती नगरीमें आ पहुँचे। वहाँकी राजलीला और विभूति देखकर आश्चर्यमें पड़ गये। वहाँ जाकर उन्होंने बहुतसे श्रेष्ठ रत्न खरीदे। तदनन्तर राजगृह नगर जाकर उन वैश्य-पुत्रोंने अपने सेठको आगे किया और उन रत्नोंको भेंट देकर चक्ररत्नके धारक राजा जरासन्धके दर्शन किये । राजा जरासन्धने उन सबका सन्मान कर उनसे पूछा कि 'अहो वैश्य-पुत्रो ! आप लोगोंने यह रत्नोंका समूह कहाँसे प्राप्त किया है ? यह अपनी उठती हुई किरणोंसे ऐसा जान पड़ता है मानो कौतुकवश इसने नेत्र ही खोल रक्खे हों ।। ५२-५६।। उत्तरमें वे पुत्र कहने लगे कि हे राजन् ! सुनिये, हमलोगोंने एक बड़ा आश्चर्य देखा है और ऐसा आश्चर्य, जिसे कि पहले कभी नहीं देखा है। समुद्र के बीचमें एक द्वारावती नगरी है जो ऐसी जान पड़ती है मानो पातालसे ही निकल कर पृथिवी पर आई हो। वहाँ चूनासे पुते हुए बड़े-बड़े भवन सघनतासे विद्यमान है जिससे ऐसा जान पड़ता है मानो समुद्रक फेनका समूह ही नगरीक आकार पर गया हो। वह शत्रुओंके द्वारा अलङ्घनीय है अतः ऐसी जान पड़ती है मानो भरत चक्रवर्तीका दूसरा पण्य ही हो। भगवान नेमिनाथकी उत्पत्तिका कारण होनेसे वह नगरी सब नगरियोंमें उत्तम है.

They bought many precious jewels from the city and, after going to Rajagriha, they presented them to their master and went to see the king Jarasandha, the bearer of the wheel jewel. 54
The king honored them and asked them, "O merchants' sons, where did you get this collection of jewels? It seems as if it has opened its eyes with its rising rays, out of curiosity." 55
They replied, "O King, listen, we have seen a great wonder, the like of which we have never seen before. In the middle of the ocean, there is a city called Dwaravati, which seems to have emerged from the netherworld and come to earth. There are large buildings made of lime, densely packed, so that it seems as if the foam of the ocean has taken the form of a city. It is impregnable to enemies, so it seems as if it is the second treasure of the Bharata Chakravarti. It is the best of all cities because it is the cause of the birth of Lord Neminaath." 56-59
