महापुराणे उत्तरपुराणम दृष्टा जैनेन्द्रबिम्बानि विद्याः कामन्ति नात्र मे । नारदाय निवेचेति स्वस्वधाम समाश्रयन् ॥ ४५४ ॥ निर्विघ्नं यज्ञनिर्वृत्तौ विश्वभूः पर्वतश्च तौ । जीवितान्ते चिरं दुःखं नरकेऽनुबभूवतुः ॥ ४५५ ॥ महाकालोऽप्यभिप्रेतं साधयित्वा स्वरूपकृत् । प्राग्भवे पोदनाधीशो नृपोऽहं मधुपिङ्गलः ॥ ४५६ ॥ मयैवं सुलसाहतोमहत्पापमनुष्ठितम् । अहिंसालक्षणो धर्मो जिनेन्द्रैरभिभाषितः ॥१५७॥ अनुष्ठेयः स धर्मिष्ठरित्युक्त्वासौ तिरोदधत् । स्वयं चादात्स्वदुश्चेष्टाप्रायश्चित्तं दर्याधीः ॥ ४५८ ॥ 'निवृत्तिमेव सम्मोहाद्विहितात्पापकर्मणः । विश्वभूप्रमुखाः सर्वे हिंसाधर्मप्रवृत्तकाः ॥ ४५९ ॥ प्रययुस्ते गतिं पापामारकीमिति केचन । दिव्यबोधैः समाकर्ण्य मुनिभिः समुदाहृतम् ॥ ४६॥ पर्वतोद्दिष्टदुर्मार्ग नोपेयुः पापभीरवः । केचित्त दीर्घसंसारास्तस्मिन्नेव व्यवस्थिताः ॥ ४६१ ॥ इत्यनेन स मन्त्री च राजा चागममाहतम् । समासीनाश्च सर्वेऽपि मन्त्रिणं तुष्टुवुस्तराम् ॥ ४६२ ॥ तदा सेनापति ना महीशस्य महाबलः । पुण्यं भवतु पापं वा यागे नस्तेन किं फलम् ॥ ४६३ ॥ प्रभावदर्शनं श्रेयो भूभृन्मध्ये कुमारयोः । इत्युक्तवांस्ततो राजा पुनश्चैतत् विचारवत् ॥ ४६४ ॥ इति मत्वा विसृज्यैतान् मन्त्रिसेनापतीन् पुनः । हितोपदेशिन प्रश्नं तमपृच्छत्पुरोहितम् ।। ४६५॥ गतयोजनकागारं स्यान वेष्टं कुमारयोः । इति सोऽपि पुराणेषु निमित्तेषु च लक्षितम् ॥ ४६६ ॥
अस्मत्कुमारयोस्तत्र यागे भावी महोदयः। संशयोऽत्र न कर्तव्यस्त्वयान्यच्चेदमुच्यते ॥४६७ ॥ भथास्मिन् भारते क्षेत्र मनवस्तीर्थनायकाः । चक्रेशासिविधारामा भविष्यन्ति महौजसः ।। ४६८॥
दोनोंने उसे यथाविधि किया । तदनन्तर विद्याधरोंका राजा दिनकरदेव यज्ञमें विघ्न करनेकी इच्छासे आया और जिनप्रतिमाएँ देखकर नारदसे कहने लगा कि यहाँ मेरी विद्याएँ नहीं चल सकतीं ऐसा कहकर वह अपने स्थान पर चला गया ॥ ४५३-४५४॥ इस तरह वह यज्ञ निर्विघ्न समाप्त हुआ
और विश्व मन्त्री तथा पर्वत दोनों ही आयुके अन्तमें मरकर चिरकालके लिए नरकम दुःख भोगने लगे ॥ ४५५॥
अन्तमें महाकाल असर अपना अभिप्राय पूरा कर अपने असली रूप में प्रकट हुआ और कहने लगा कि मैं पूर्व भवमें पोदनपुरका राजा मधुपिङ्गल था। मैंने ही इस तरह सुलसाके निमित्त यह बड़ा भारी पाप किया है। जिनेन्द्र भगवान्ने जिस अहिंसालक्षण धर्मका निरूपण किया है धर्मात्माओंको उसीका पालन करना चाहिये इतना कह वह अन्तर्हित हो गया और दयासे आर्द्र
बुद्धि होकर उसने अपनी दुष्ट चेष्टाओंका प्रायश्चित्त स्वयं ग्रहण किया ॥ ४५६-४५८ ॥ मोह वश किये हुए पाप कर्मसे निवृत्ति होना ही प्रायश्चित्त कहलाता है । हिंसा धर्ममें प्रवृत्त रहने वाले विश्वभू श्रादि समस्त लोग पापके कारण नरकगतिमें गये और पापसे डरनेवाले कितने ही लोगोंनेसम्यग्ज्ञानके धारक मुनियोंके द्वारा कहा धर्म सुनकर पर्वतके द्वारा कहा मिथ्यामार्ग स्वीकृत नहीं किया और जिनका संसार दीघे था ऐसे कितने ही लोग उसी मिथ्यामागमें स्थित रहे आये ॥४५६-४६१ ।। इस प्रकार अतिशयमति मंत्रीके द्वारा कहा हुआ आगम सुनकर प्रथम मंत्री, राजा तथा अन्य सभासद लोगोंने उस द्वितीय मन्त्रीकी बहुत भारी स्तुति की ॥ ४६२ ।। उस समय राजा दशरथका महाबल नामका सेनापति बोला कि यज्ञमें पुण्य हो चाहे पाप, हम लोगोंको इससे क्या प्रयोजन है ? हम लोगोंको तो राजाओंके बीच दोनों कुमारोंका प्रभाव दिखलाना श्रेयस्कर है। सेनापतिकी यह बात सुनकर राजा दशरथने कहा कि अभी इस बात पर विचार करना है। यह कह कर उन्होंने मंत्री
और सेनापतिको तो विदा किया और तदनन्तर हितका उपदेश देनेवाले पुरोहितसे यह प्रश्न पूछा कि राजा जनकके घर जाने पर दोनों कुमारोंका इष्ट सिद्ध होगा या नहीं ? उत्तरमें पुरोहित भी पुराणों और मिमित्तशास्त्रोंके कहे अनुसार कहने लगा कि हमारे इन दोनों कुमारोंका राजा जनकके उस यज्ञमें महान् ऐश्वर्य प्रकट होगा इसमें आपको थोड़ा भी संशय नहीं करना चाहिये । इसके सिवाय एक बात और कहता हूँ ॥ ४६३-४६७ ।। वह यह कि इस भरत क्षेत्रमें मनु-कुलकर, तीर्थकर,

It is better for us to show the influence of both the princes among the kings." Hearing this, King Dasharatha said, "We should consider this matter." Having said this, he dismissed the minister and the commander, and then asked the Purohit, who gave good advice, "Will the two princes be successful when they go to the house of King Janaka?" The Purohit, in accordance with the Puranas and the Mimansa Shastras, said, "There will be great prosperity for our two princes in that Yajna of King Janaka. You should not have any doubt about this. Besides, I have something else to say." || 463-467 || "It is this, that in this Bharat Kshetra, the descendants of Manu, the Tirthankaras, the Chakravartis, the kings of various realms, will be born with great power." || 468 ||
