Mahapuraanam
Having surrounded the forest on the banks of the Maalyavati river, which was full of elephants, and having drunk the water of the Yamuna river, the elephants of Bharata conquered all directions in that region. ||56|| Having gone along the banks of the Anuvana river, their victorious army attacked the land of Vatsa and then crossed the Dasarna (Dhasan) river. ||60|| The army of Bharata crossed the wide rivers Vishala, Nalika, Sindhu, Para, Nikundari, Bahuvaja, Ramya, Sikatini, Kuha, Samatoya, Kanja, Kapeevati, Nivindhya, the best of rivers Jambuti, Vasumati, Sharkaravati which flows to the sea, Siprā, Krtamalā, Parija, Panasa, Avantikamā, Haritapani, Kagandhuni, Vyadhi, Carmanvati, Shatabhoga, Nanda, Karabhavagini, Chullitapi, Reva, Saptapara, and Kaushiki. These rivers were filled with deep water and were surrounded on all sides by the army, whose banks had been dug up by the hooves of horses, making them very wide. ||61-66|| The soldiers crossed the mountain called Tairechika, surrounded the mountain called Vaidyurya, and then crossed the Kutachal mountain and reached the mountain called Pariyatra. ||67|| That army of Bharata climbed the peaks of Pushpagiri, then climbed the peaks of Smitagiri, and then rested in the groves of the mountain called Gada. ||68|| The soldiers of Bharata took shelter in the caves of the Rkshavan mountain, as well as in the caves of the Vataprstha mountain, and then from there they took shelter on the banks of the mountain called Kambala. ||69|| Those soldiers crossed the great mountain called Vasavant, settled on the mountain called Asuradhupana, and then from there they reached the mountains called Madebha and Angireyika. ||70|| The soldiers, considering those countries to be free from enemies, were roaming here and there, capturing elephants in the forest regions with their elephants. ||71|| The rivers which were difficult to swim across, i.e. difficult to cross, became easy to swim across, i.e. easy to cross, after being consumed by the soldiers. The mountains, which were difficult to climb, became easy to climb, because their peaks were broken. ||72||
