The Great Purana:
"He pleased the submissive and tormented the opponents. Peace and prowess are the two qualities befitting a king who desires to conquer the earth." (36)
"His pleased gaze showed his favor to the submissive, while his furrowed brow revealed his anger towards the enemy. Truly, kings are like actors." (37)
"He was delighted, offering precious gems to the kings of Anga, elephants to the kings of Vanga, and both gems and elephants to the kings of Kalinga." (38)
"The king of Magadha, desiring his favor, praised his excellent qualities, making him seem like a captive." (39)
"The commander of King Bharata, without any effort, drew to his side the kings of Kuru, Avanti, Panchala, Kashi, Kosala, and Vidarbha." (40)

"At that time, countless gems were being presented to King Bharata, as if the earth, like a pregnant woman, could not bear the unbearable burden of the emperor's army, and thus gave birth to endless treasures." (45)
