Thirty-ninth Chapter
Those who were confused by the news of his departure, those who were terrified, and those who were unstable because of his arrival, all bowed down to him. || 12 || Just as a tree that stands against the strong current of a great river is uprooted, so too, any king who stood against this powerful Chakravarti was destroyed, along with his lineage. || 13 || Bharata, whose only passion was valor, could not even tolerate his own reflection in a mirror, how could he tolerate his enemies? || 14 || Some of his enemies, upon hearing the sound of his army, fled far away, adopting the ways of the deer. || 15 || And some of the powerful kings, out of fear, abandoned their kingdoms, leaving behind their umbrellas, fly whisks, and other royal insignia, just as snakes abandon their coils and their hoods. || 16 || Just as evil serpents are lifted by the power of mantras and placed in anthills, so too, Bharata, by the power of his advisors, uprooted many wicked and pleasure-seeking kings and imprisoned them in forts, replacing them with noble kings. || 17 ||
