खग्धरा
वजूद्रोण्याममुष्य क्वथदिव जठरं व्यक्तमुद्बुबु दाम्बु स्फूर्जत्पातालरन्थ्रोच्छ्वसदनिलबलाद्विष्वगावर्तमानम्' । प्रस्तीर्णाने करत्नान्यपहरति जने नूनमुत्तप्तमन्तः प्रायो रायां वियोगो जनयति महतोऽप्युग्रमन्तवदाहम् । २०१

गम्भीर प्रकृतिरनलसत्त्वयोगः प्रायस्त्वामनुहरते विना

इत्थं नियन्तरि परां श्रियमम्बुराशेः श्रवर्णयत्यनुगतंर्वचनविचित्रैः । प्राप प्रमोदमधिकं नचिराच्च' सम्राट् सेनानिवेशमभियातुमना बभूव ॥ २०३॥

बड़वानलोंके द्वारा बार बार ह्रास होनेपर भी जिनका कभी क्षय नहीं हो पाता है, जो लोगोंको आनन्द देनेवाले हैं, प्रमाण रहित हैं, अनेक प्रकारके हैं, सर्पोंके फणाओंपर आरूढ़ हैं, अत्यन्त पवित्र हैं, और संतापको नष्ट करनेवाले हैं ऐसे रत्नों तथा जलके समूहों की अपेक्षा इस समुद्रका जब तक संसार है तब तक कभी भी नाश नहीं होता । भावार्थ - यद्यपि इस समुद्र के अनेक रत्न इसके विवरों-बिलों में घुसकर नष्ट हो जाते हैं और जलके समूह बड़वानलमें जलकर कम हो जाते हैं तथापि इसके रत्न और जलके समूह कभी भी विनाशको प्राप्त नहीं हो पाते क्योंकि जितने नष्ट होते हैं उससे कहीं अधिक उत्पन्न हो जाते हैं ॥ २००॥ बहुत बड़े पाताल रूपी छिद्रोंके द्वारा ऊपरकी ओर बढ़ते हुए वायुके जोरसे जो चारों ओर घूम रहा है और जिसमें जलके अनेक बबूले उठ रहे हैं ऐसा यह समुद्रका उदर अर्थात् मध्यभाग वज्रकी कड़ाही में खौलता हुआ सा जान पड़ता है अथवा लोग इसके जहां तहां फैले हुए अनेक रत्न ले जाते हैं इसलिये मानो यह भीतर ही भीतर संतप्त हो रहा है सो ठीक ही है क्योंकि धनका वियोग प्रायः करके बड़े बड़े पुरुषोंके हृदयमें भी भयंकर दाह उत्पन्न कर देता है ॥। २०१ || हे आयुष्मन्, जिस प्रकार आप अनेक आश्चर्योंसे भरे हुए हैं उसी प्रकार यह समुद्र भी अनेक आश्चर्योंसे भरा हुआ है, जिस प्रकार आपके पास अच्छे अच्छे रत्न हैं उसी प्रकार इस समुद्र के पास भी अच्छे अच्छे रत्न हैं, जिस प्रकार संसारके समस्त प्राणी आपके उपजीव्य हैं अर्थात् आपकी सहायतासे ही जीवित रहते हैं उसी प्रकार इस समुद्रके भी उपजीव्य हैं अर्थात् समुद्र में उत्पन्न हुए रत्न मोती तथा जल आदिसे अपनी आजीविका करते हैं, जिस प्रकार आप गंभीर प्रकृतिवाले हैं उसी प्रकार यह समुद्र भी गंभीर (गहरी ) प्रकृतिवाला है और जिस प्रकार आप अनल्पसत्त्व योग अर्थात् अनन्त शक्तिको धारण करनेवाले हैं उसी प्रकार यह समुद्र भी अनल्पसत्त्व योग अर्थात् बड़े बड़े जलचर जीवोंसे सहित है अथवा जिस प्रकार आप अनालसत्व योग अर्थात् आलस्यके सम्बन्धसे रहित हैं उसी प्रकार यह समुद्र भी अनालसत्व योग अर्थात् नाल ( नरा ) रहित जीवोंके सम्बन्ध सहित हैं इस प्रकार यह समुद्र ठीक आपका अनुकरण कर रहा है । यदि अन्तर है तो केवल इतना ही है कि यह जलकी ऋद्धिसे सहित है और आप जल अर्थात् मूर्ख (जड़) मनुष्योंकी ऋद्धिसे रहित हैं || २०२ || इस प्रकार जब सारथिने समुद्रकी उत्कृष्ट शोभाका वर्णन किया तब सम्राट् भरत बहुत ही अधिक आनन्दको प्राप्त हुए तथा शीघ्र ही अपनी छावनी में जानेके लिये उद्यत हुए ॥ २०३॥

**Khagdhara**

The belly of this ocean, boiling like a cauldron of vajra, is clearly bubbling, with water-bubbles bursting forth, and it is constantly revolving due to the force of the wind blowing from the subterranean holes. People are constantly taking away the scattered jewels, so it seems as if it is burning from within. Indeed, the separation from wealth often causes a fierce burning even in the hearts of great men. 201

**Praharṣiṇī**

Oh, Āyusman, just as you are filled with many wonders, so too is this ocean filled with many wonders. Just as you possess excellent jewels, so too does this ocean possess excellent jewels. Just as all beings in the world are dependent on you, meaning they live with your help, so too are they dependent on this ocean, meaning they make their livelihood from the jewels, pearls, and water that are born in the ocean. Just as you are of a deep nature, so too is this ocean of a deep nature. And just as you possess the yoga of infinite power, so too does this ocean possess the yoga of infinite power, meaning it is filled with large aquatic creatures. Or, just as you are free from the yoga of laziness, so too is this ocean free from the yoga of laziness, meaning it is filled with creatures that are not lazy (nara). In this way, this ocean is truly imitating you. If there is any difference, it is only this: it is filled with the abundance of water, while you are free from the abundance of water, meaning you are free from foolish (jaḍa) humans. 202

**Vasantatilaka**

Thus, the charioteer described the excellent beauty of the ocean with various words, and the emperor Bharat attained great joy and soon became eager to go to his camp. 203

Even though it is repeatedly diminished by great fires, it never perishes. It brings joy to people, is without measure, is of many kinds, is mounted on the hoods of serpents, is extremely pure, and destroys suffering. Compared to such jewels and groups of water, this ocean will never perish as long as the world exists. Meaning: Even though many jewels of this ocean are destroyed by entering its holes and burrows, and groups of water are diminished by burning in great fires, still, the jewels and groups of water of this ocean never attain destruction, because much more is produced than what is destroyed. 200
