The 64th Chapter
Giving to Sagardatta, who was unable to pay, Atpa kept him in the sun for a long time amidst the stench of smoke. [276] Due to the proclamation of safety by Anand, the king, Angaka, the son of Anand, killed the king's ram and ate it. For this, his hand was cut off and he was fed excrement. [280] In another place, a woman who drank liquor, wanting to buy liquor, killed a child and buried him in the ground. She was telling this news to her son when a royal official heard it and punished her. [281] Seeing these sins arising from violence and other faults, I realized that the fruit of sin is bad in this world and the next. [283] Out of fear of the world, I did not consider it right to abandon my vows. I thought that men who are corrupted by violence, falsehood, theft, and adultery, suffer the pain of various kinds of killing and imprisonment in this life, not to mention the suffering they endure in the afterlife. Our poverty too is due to our past sins. Therefore, virtuous men should accumulate this merit as much as possible. Thinking this, I left my father and took initiation with the desire for liberation. [286] By the grace of the Guru, I quickly became a traverser of the ocean of all scriptures and my intellect became pure. On another day, I heard about my past births, full of faults, from the omniscient Lord. I will tell you about them, to create great wonder in you. [287-288] In this very Pushkalavati country, King Vasupal lovingly protects the city of Pundarikani. [289] One day, the Kotwal caught a thief named Vidyutvega. Taking the wealth in his hand, he said, "Give the rest of the wealth." When he refused, the guards punished him. [290]
