The Mahapurana
On another day, the king of the Kechara, having announced the swayamvara, caused a garland to be placed in front of the Siddhakoota chaitya. [157] He then caused the Mahameru to be circled three times, traversing the earth. Some of the Kechara, unable to take the garland, [158] went into the water and were defeated by Prabhavati. Indeed, death is not equal to the humiliation of the proud. [159]
Then Hiranyavarma, skilled in the art of war, came forward and, having defeated her, placed the garland around Prabhavati's neck. [160]
Their happiness, born of the love of past lives, continued for a long time. Then, one day, seeing a pair of doves, Prabhavati remembered her past life. She became detached and, filled with sorrow, sat alone, thinking. [161-162]
Hiranyavarma, remembering his past life, wrote down the whole story on a piece of cloth and gave it to Prabhavati's friend, Priyakarini. Seeing the cloth in Priyakarini's hand, Prabhavati asked, "Where did you get this?" Her friend replied, "This cloth was written by your husband, and his servant, Sukanta, gave it to me." Hearing this, Prabhavati also wrote down the story of her past life on a piece of cloth and gave it to her friend. [163-165]
Seeing the cloth, Hiranyavarma became very attached to Prabhavati, and Prabhavati also became very attached to Hiranyavarma. Their love was twice as great as their love in their past life. [166]
All their relatives gathered together and performed their wedding ceremony, as if they wanted to perform their second auspicious ceremony. [167]
On the tenth day, they were performing their abhisheka puja at the Siddhakoota chaitya, when Hiranyavarma, seeing the perfect charana, [168]
