Having heard the supreme words of the Lord, they were filled with dispassion. Embracing the great renunciation, they departed from their homes to the forest. ||12|| Having received the initiation given by the Lord himself, like a new bride, they, the young kings, were like new grooms. ||126|| They received the hand of that initiation, which, like a princess, came to them with great love, holding the hair. ||127|| Embracing intense austerity, they shone like the sun in summer, their brilliance eclipsing the world. ||128|| Through intense austerities, they made their bodies thin, their austerity-virtue shining like a carved austerity-wealth. ||129|| Standing in the Samayika conduct, as specified in the Jina-kalpa, they practiced intense austerity, enhanced by purity of knowledge. ||130|| Having attained the highest peak of dispassion, they, the lords of the age, renounced the wealth of the kingdom, desiring only the wealth of austerity. ||131|| Embraced by the wealth of austerity, they yearned for the wealth of liberation, engrossed in the wealth of knowledge, they forgot the wealth of the kingdom. ||132|| Having studied the twelve-limbed Shruta-skandha, these great intellects adorned their souls with the excellent practice of austerity. ||133|| Understanding that restraint of the mind comes from study, and that restraint of the senses comes from restraint of the mind, these wise ones applied their intellect to study. ||134|| Through the Acharya-anga, they understood perfectly the good conduct, and they conquered the impurity of conduct. ||135||
