## The Great Purana
**77.** For those who have conquered their senses, who have heard the scriptures well, and who desire to conquer the other world, forgiveness is the best means.
**78.** In this matter, which can be achieved by writing, excessive effort is futile. For who would use an axe to cut the sprout of a blade of grass?
**79.** Therefore, you should subdue this group of brothers by remaining patient and sending envoys with gifts.
**80.** Today you should send envoys with letters, who will go and tell them: "Come and pay your respects to your elder brother."
**81.** Their service is like the service of the Kalpavriksha, fulfilling all your desires. Your elder brother is like a father, a Chakravarti, and worthy of your respect in every way.
**82.** Just as the moon's orb does not shine brightly from distant stars, so your power does not shine brightly from you who are far away.
**83.** This kingdom will not be satisfying for them without you, for a kingdom shared with brothers brings joy to the virtuous.
**84.** This is a verbal message, the rest you can learn from the letter. Thus, you should assure those valiant brothers with letters and gifts.
**85.** O Aryas, this action will bring you fame and prosperity. If they do not yield peacefully, then you should consider further action.
**86.** You should perform this action, fearing the censure of the people, for fame is enduring in the world, while wealth is fleeting.
**87.** Thus, the Chakravarti abandoned his anger at the words of the priest. It is right, for the minds of great men are calmed by kind words.
**88.** For now, the mighty Bahubali, who cannot be subdued by effort, should remain distant. His crookedness will be tested by the remaining brothers.
