सोम० तानि क मरिष्यन्तीत्याह - ऊर्ध्वं भूतलान्नवयोजनशतोपरिसमग्रोर्ध्वलोके तथाऽधोलौकिकग्रामादौ भवनपतिषु सप्तपृथ्वीषु च तिर्यग्लोके चाष्टादशयोजनशतमाने मृतान्यनुभूतानि जीवेन बालमरणान्यनिच्छामरणानि शस्त्रादिमरणानि वा पूर्वोक्तानि यदिवाऽनुभूतानि ततः किं विधेयमित्याह - दंसणगाथा/० स क्षपक एवं विज्ञातबालमरणविपाकश्चिन्तयति - दर्शनज्ञानाभ्यां सहगतः समन्वितः सन्नहं पण्डितमरणं विवेकिमरणमनुमरिष्येऽनुरथशब्दार्थे ।।४७।।
गुण ऊर्दू ऊर्ध्वलोकः, अधोलोकः अधोग्रामादौ, तिर्यग्लोकेऽपि चाष्टादशयोजनशतमाने मृतान्यनुभूतानि । दर्शनज्ञानसमन्वितः सननुमरिष्ये [पण्डितमरणम् ।।४७ ।।
[गा. ४८ तः ७१ पण्डितमरणे भावनाः तदाराधनविधिश्च] उव्वेयणयं जाई मरणं नरएसु वेयणाओ य । एयाणि संभरंतो पंडियमरणं मरसु इण्हिं ।।४८।। उद्वेगजनकं जातिमरणं नरकेष वेदनाश्च ।
एतानि स्मरन् पण्डितमरणं म्रियस्वेदानीम् ।।४८।। भुव० हे वत्स ! विराधितव्रतस्य उद्वेगजनकं भयानकमुद्वेगकारि । किं ? जननं जातिः, म्रियते मरणं, तत्संसारे परिभ्रमतस्ते भविष्यतीत्यध्याहारः । तथा पापकारिनरान् कायन्त्याह्वायन्तीति नरकास्तेषु। वेदनाश्च छेदन-भेदन-क्रकच-करपत्रविदारण-शाल्मलीवृक्षशिखरारोपण-तप्तायःपुत्तलिकासमालिङ्गन-वैतरणीनदीप्लावन-वज्रवालुका-पुलिनभारवहन-तप्तायस्त्रपुपानादिका दशप्रकारा वा दुरधिसह्या भविष्यन्तीत्यत एतानि संस्मरन् चिन्तयन् पण्डितमरणमभ्युद्यतमरणं मर इदानीमित्यर्थः ।।४८।।
सोम० अथ गुरुः क्षपकस्य दुर्गतिभयं दर्शयन्नुपदेशमाह - हे वत्स ! विराधितव्रतस्योद्वेगजनकं भयानकं उद्वेगकारि, किम् ? जातिर्जन्म, म्रियते इति मरणम्, जातिश्च मरणं च जातिमरणम्, तत् संसारे परिभ्रमतस्ते भविष्यतीत्यध्याहारः, क्वचिदुव्वेयणाइ' इति पाठस्तत्रापि प्राकृतत्वाद् वचनव्यत्ययं कृत्वा जन्म-मरणविशेषणं कार्यम् । तथा पापकारिनरान् कायन्ति आह्वायन्तीति नरकास्तेषु वेदनाश्च छेदन-भेदन-करपत्रविदारण-शाल्मलीवृक्षशिखरारोपणतप्तायःपुत्रिकासमालि
ङ्गनादिरूपाः क्षेत्रजादिभेदा वा दुरधिसह्या विराद्धव्रतस्यैव ते भविष्यन्तीत्यत एतानि संस्मरन् चिन्तयन् पण्डितमरणमभ्युद्यतमरणं म्रियस्वेदानीमित्यर्थः ।।४८ ।।
गुण उद्वेगजनकं भयानकमुद्वेगकारि किं जातिर्मरणं तत्संसारे भ्रमतस्ते भविष्यतीत्यध्याहारः । नरकेषु वेदनाः छेदनाद्याः । एतानि संस्मरन् चिन्तयन् ।।४८ ।।

What is it? Birth is जाति, death is मरण, and जाति and मरण together are जातिमरण. You will wander in the cycle of existence. This is the conclusion. And in the hells, which torment and call out to the wicked, there are torments such as cutting, piercing, tearing apart with claws, ripping apart with sharp blades, being planted on the top of a शाल्मली tree, embracing a hot iron statue, being drowned in the river Vaitarani, carrying a load of iron sand, and drinking hot iron liquid. These are ten kinds of unbearable torments. Therefore, remembering and contemplating these things, die a wise death, a death of liberation, now.'"
