• सिन्धु घाटी की सभ्यता का प्रथम चरण ९,००० साल पूर्व का माना गया है तथा यहा पर खेती का प्रारम्भ भी ९,००० साल से ११०० साल के बीच हुआ ऐसा विद्वानों का मानना है कि हड़प्पा से प्राप्त मूर्ति के विषयमें डॉ. टी.एन. रामचन्द्रन ने स्पष्ट लिखा है कि We are perhaps recognising in Harrappa statue a full fledged Jain Tirthankara in the characteristic pose of physical abandon (kayotsarga). The statue under description is therefore a splendid representative specimen of this thought of Jainism at perhaps its very inception. ये सभ्यता गुजरात से लेकर सम्पूर्ण अफगानिस्तान से ऊपर स्वातघाटी, वैस्टर्न तिब्बत, काश्मीर, खोतान, कजाकिस्तान, चाइना, मंगोलिया साइबेरिया तक पनपी और ये सभी क्षेत्र Samanism से प्रभावित थे । डॉ. एम. एल. शर्मा, रायबहादुर रमाप्रसाद चन्द, प्रो. प्राणनाथ विद्यालंकार, डॉ. राधाकुमुद मुखर्जी आदि अनेक इतिहासकारों ने सिन्धु घाटी सभ्यता को ऋषभ संस्कृति से प्रभावित माना है ।
• Dr. Zimmer के अनुसार “Jainism represent the thinking of the non Aryan people of India and believed that there is truth in the Jaina idea that their religion goes back to a remote antiquity in question being that of the Pre Aryans' so called Dravidian period which has recently been dramatically illuminated by the discovery of a series of great late stone age cities in the Indus valley dating from the third and perhaps even to the forth millennium B.C."
आज तक की खोजों के अनुसार यहाँ की सभ्यता दक्षिण-पूर्वी एशिया से ज्यादा प्राचीन मानी जाती है । South East एशिया में अभी तक पाँच हजार साल पूर्व और कुछ स्थानों पर आठ हजार सालों तक का समय विद्वानों ने निर्धारित किया है।
