forth cogent references to fix the time-limit of rar, viz. the references of nier, 54, phife and others and of उद्योतन's कुवलयमाला. Prof.Jacobi in his introduction satisfies himself by following; as regards ERHE's date, the arguments given by Jinavijaya. Regarding his date three conflicting references exist.
(1) enji's fa erano (V. S. 14th century, later part) quotes under 30 of the following verse about the date of हरिभद्र
पंचसए पणसीए विक्कमकालाउ झत्ति अथमिओ। .
हरिभद्दसूरि-सूरो भवियाणं दिसउ कल्लाणं ॥
“May the sun in the form of HaribhadraSuri who set as early as V. S. 585 show happiness to those who intend to have absolution.”
This tradition is supported by प्रद्युम्नसूरि's विचारसारप्रकरण ( the date unsettled but may be earlier than मेरुतुंग) which also quotes this गाथा; समयसुंदर' गाथासहस्त्री ( quotes गाथा; V. S. 1686 ); gaisa's aanraadine (V. S. 15 th cent.); parte's तपागच्छगुर्वावली, both these last authorities state that aftug flourished after Vira-Nirvāņa 1055 i. e. V. S. 585.
Moreover gratars's gaiaat (V. S. 1466) states that हरिभद्र was the friend of मानदेव, who flourished in the 6th century V. S.
