Deva VIMALA GANI'S HIRA SAUBHĀGYAM:
INTRODUCTION
BY G V. TAGARE Gujarat has a glorious tradition of Sanskrit Şcholarship. Lakulīsa, the author of the Pāśupata Sūtra and probably the founder of that Saivite sect, Sthiramati, the famous Mahāyāna Buddhist, philosopher, Uvața the pre-Sāyaṇa commentator of the vedic works, the grammarian-poet Bhatti, Māgha, the author of the Mahākāvya sisupālavadha, the great Jaina polymath Hemachndrācārya; to name a few, all are the eminent sons of Gujarat. The Scholar-poet Deva-vimala Gaņi (DV.) the author of the present beautiful religious-cumhistorical epic poem Hira-saubhāgyam' is another son of Gujarat who carried the tradition of Sk. scholarship in the 16th century A. D.
THE TITLE From the colophone of every Canto (Sarga), verse 19 of the concluding verses of the poem and the 3rd stanza of the introduction of the poet's commentary of this epic 'Hīra-Saubhāgyam' (H. S.) seems to be the title of this poem.
It seems to be the fashion at those days to add the word "Saubhāgyam” to the name of the hero of the 1. (alahaa) faraife 74ÀZEFA.cat E17177€ | TUESI verse 1911 2. Faletta 417974107891771agifisaith etc.
