NOTES ON
पङ्क्तिः - पंती । लाञ्छनम् -- लंछणं । षण्मुखः छंमुहो । उत्कण्ठा — उक्कंठा । सन्ध्या - संझा । विन्ध्यः - विंझो ।
स्वरेभ्यो वक्रादौ ॥ १ । १ । ४२ ॥ p. 53 -
In वक्र, मनस्विनी, उपरि and other words of the class, Anuswâra is placed after the first, second, and third vowels, respectively.
e. g. वक्रम् - वंकं । त्र्यसं-तंसं । अश्रु - अंसू । ( Hemachandra gives अंसुं ) कुट्मलम् - कुंपलं । गुच्छं—गुंछं । पुच्छं - पुंछं । बुध्नम् - बुंधं । गृष्टिःगिठी (Vararuchi gives गुंठी ) । कर्कोटकः - कंकोडओ | दर्शनम् - दंसणं । पर्शुः - पंसू । स्पर्शः - फंसो । श्मश्रुः - मंसू । मूर्धा - मुंढा । वृश्चिकःविंचुओ - विंधुओ (Hemachandra and Trivikrama give विंछिओ ) । मार्जारः - मंजारो - मज्जारो ।
मनस्विनी --मणंसिणी । मनस्वी - मणसी । प्रतिश्रुत्-पडंसुआ । मनःशिला - मणंसिला - मणासिला ( Vide p. 102 ) । वयस्य : - वअंसो ( Hemachandra gives वयंसो ) । मनःशिला - मणंसिला ।
उपरि - उवरिं ( Hemachandra and S' esbakrishna have अवरिं ) । अतिमुक्तकम् - अइमुंतअं ।
Vararuchi gives a few more instances as under :
-हस्वः - हंसो | मस्तम् - मंथं । वर्णः - वंणो । प्रतिश्रुतम् - पडिसुदं । अश्व:अंसो । अभिमुक्तः - अद्दिमुंको । One MS. of the work has also चक्रम् - चंकं ।

Anuswâra followed by a consonant of any of the first five classes is optionally changed to the nasal of the class to which the consonant belongs.
Vararuchi is
This change is necessary according to some. in favour of the optional change. We have accordingly संका or सङ्का, बिन्दू or बिंदू, संढो or सण्ढो &c.
लुङ् मांसादौ ॥ १ । १ । ४४ ।। p. 54—
In Hi and other words of the class, the Anuswâra is optionally dropped
e. g. मांसम् - मंसं - मासं ( by 'स्वरस्य बिन्द्वमि' which teaches that the vowel is shortened when followed by Acc. Sing. Term., or by Anuswara) । मांसलम् - मासलं - मंसलं । पांसु - पासू
