English Translation (preserving Jain terms):
Beloved! O Devi! What is the urgent purpose of your coming here in such haste? [38] O Bhāminī! Why is your arrival, like the sudden appearance in a dream, snatching away the heart of the ten-faced one (Rāvaṇa)? [36]
Thereafter, she whose face was like the spotless full moon, whose eyes were like blossomed lotuses, who was naturally endowed with the best of graces, who was skilled in the art of casting sidelong glances, whose body was the abode of the god of love, whose sweet voice was occasionally faltering, whose body was adorned with the variegated splendor of her teeth and lips, whose belly was bent down by the weight of her large golden breasts, whose triple folds of skin were extremely delicate and most beautiful, and who was the supreme ground for the grace of her lord - that Mandodarī, prostrating, said: [40-43]
O Deva! Being filled with supreme love and compassion, please grant me the alms of my husband. Attain graciousness. [44] O great king! O you who are the great waves of determination! Lift me up, who is drowning in the ocean of sorrow of separation. [45] O highly intelligent one! You are like the sun in the sky of your kinsmen. Therefore, do not completely neglect this vast garden of your family. [46] O master, please listen even to these harsh words of mine. Since this position has been given to me by you, you should forgive my offense. [47] Words that are unpleasant, but beneficial to friends, should be accepted like medicine, as they are free from opposition and bring happiness in the end. [48] Why have you ascended the scales of doubt? Why do you, without any restraint, torment both yourself and us? [49] Even now, is that same ancient land not yours? O Deva! Only restrain the mind that has set out on the wrong path. [50] This desire of yours has arisen in your extreme distress. Quickly control the horses of the senses, firmly holding the reins of discrimination. [51]
