पपुराणे
पूर्वापरककुब्भागाविव लोकालिलक्षितौ। उदयास्तमयाधाने सर्वतेजस्विनां क्षमौ ॥५६॥ अभ्यर्णाणवसंरोधसकटे कुकुटीरके । तेजसः परिनिन्दन्ती छायामपि पराङ्मुखीम् ।।५७।। अपि पादनखस्थेन प्रतिबिम्बेन लजितौ । केशानामपि भङ्गेन प्राप्नुवन्तावशं परम् ॥५॥ चूडामणिगतेनापि क्षत्रेणानेन सत्रपौ। अपि दर्पणदृष्टेन प्रतिपुंसोपतापिनौ ।।५।। अम्भोधरहतेनाऽपि धनुषा कृतकोपनौ । अनानमदिरालेख्यपार्थिवैरपि खेदितौ ।।६०॥ स्वरुपमण्डलसन्तोषसङ्गतस्य रवेरपि । अनादरेण पश्यन्तौ तेजसः प्रतिघातकम् ॥६१॥ भिन्दन्तौ बलिनं वायुमप्यवीक्षितविग्रहम् । हिमवत्यपि सामर्षों चमरीचालवी जिते ॥६२।। शः सलिलनाथानामपि खेदितमानसौ। प्रचेतसमपीशानममृष्यन्तावुदन्वताम् ॥६३।। सच्छत्रानपि निश्छायान् कुर्वाणौ धरणीक्षितः । मुखेन मधु मुञ्चन्तौ प्रसन्नौ सत्सुसेवितौ ॥६४॥ दुष्टभूपालवंशानामप्यनासन्नवर्तिनाम् । कुर्वाणावूष्मणा ग्लानि सम्प्राप्तसहजन्मना ॥६५॥ शस्त्रसंस्तवनश्याम मुद्वहन्तौ करोदरम् । शेषराजप्रतापाग्निपरिनिर्वापणादिव ॥६६॥ धीरैः कामकनिःस्वानोग्याकाले समुदगतः । आलपन्ताविवासन्नाभोगा: सकलदिग्वधूः ॥६७॥ ईशो लवणस्तागीशस्तादृशोऽडकुशः । इत्यलं विकसच्छब्दप्रादुर्भावौ शुभोदयौ ॥६॥
(पक्षमें युगकी उत्तम व्यवस्था करने में निपुण) महावृषभोंके समान थे अथवा धर्माश्रमोंके समान रमणीय और सुखको धारण करनेवाले थे ॥५५॥ अथवा वे समस्त तेजस्वी मनुष्यों के उदय तथा अस्त करने में समर्थ थे, इसलिए लोग उन्हें पूर्व और पश्चिम दिशाओं के समान देखते थे ॥५६|| यह विशाल पृथिवी, निकटवर्ती समुद्रसे घिरी होनेके कारण उन्हें छोटी-सी कुटियाके समान जान पड़ती थी और इस पृथिवी रूपी कुटियामें यदि उनकी छाया भी तेजसे विमुख जाती थी तो उसकी भी वे :निन्दा करते थे ॥५७॥ पैरके नखाँमें पड़नेवाले प्रतिविम्बसे भी वे लज्जित हो उठते थे और बालोंके भंगसे भी अत्यधिक दुःख प्राप्त करते थे ॥५८॥ चूड़ामणिमें प्रतिबिम्बित छत्रसे भी वे लज्जित हो जाते थे और दर्पणमें दिखनेवाले पुरुषके प्रतिविम्बसे भी खीझ उठते थे ॥५६॥ मेघके द्वारा धारण किये हुए धनुषसे भी उन्हें क्रोध उत्पन्न हो जाता था और नमस्कार नहीं करनेवाले चित्रलिखित राजाओंसे भी वे खेदखिन्न हो उठते थे ६०॥ अपने विशाल तेज
की बात दूर रहे-अत्यन्त अल्प मण्डल में सन्तोषको प्राप्त हुए सूर्यके भी तेजमें यदि कोई रुकावट ५ डालता था तो वे उसे अनादरकी दृष्टिसे देखते थे ।।६।। जिसका शरीर दिखाई नहीं देता था
ऐसी बलिष्ठ वायुको भी वे खण्डित कर देते थे तथा चमरी गायके बालोंसे वीजित हिमालयके ऊपर भी उनका क्रोध भड़क उठता था ॥६२॥ समुद्रोंमें भी जो शङ्ख पड़ रहे थे उन्हींसे उनके चित्त खिन्न हो जाते थे तथा समुद्रोंके अधिपति वरुणको भी वे सहन नहीं करते थे ॥६३।। छत्रोंसे सहित राजाओंको भी वे निश्छाय अर्थात् छायासे रहित (पक्षमें कान्तिसे रहित ) कर देते थे और सत्पुरुषोंके द्वारा सेवित होनेपर प्रसन्न हो मुखसे मधु छोड़ते थे अर्थात् उनसे मधुर वचन बोलते थे ॥६४॥ वे साथ-साथ उत्पन्न हुए प्रतापसे दूरवर्ती दुष्ट राजाओंके वंशको भी ग्लानि उत्पन्न कर रहे थे अर्थात् दूरवर्ती दुष्ट राजाओंको भी अपने प्रतापसे हानि पहुँचाते थे फिर निकटवर्ती दुष्ट राजाओंका तो कहना ही क्या है ? ॥६५।। निरन्तर शस्त्र धारण करने से उनके हस्ततल काले पड़ गये थे जिससे ऐसा जान पड़ता था मानो शेष अन्य राजाओंके प्रतापं रूप अग्निको बुझानेसे हो काले पड़ गये थे ।।६६।। अभ्यासके समय उत्पन्न धनुषके गम्भीर शब्दोंसे ऐसा जान पड़ता था मानो निकटवर्ती समस्त दिशारूपी स्त्रियोंसे वार्तालाप ही कर रहे हों॥६७। 'जैसा लवण है वेसा ही अंकुश है' इस प्रकार उन दोनोंके विषयमें
१. लाक्षितौ म०। २. नृपान् । ३. अभ्यासकाले 'योग्या गुणनिकाभ्यासः' इति कोषः । योग्यकाले म० ।
