पद्मपुराणे काचिदूचे यथैतत्ते वदनं चुम्बितं मया । यथा वक्षसि संजातं चुम्बिष्यामि व्रणाननम् ॥१४॥ अनतिप्रौढिका काचिद्वधूरभिनवोढिका । संग्रामे प्रोद्यते नाथे प्रौढत्वं समुपागता ॥१५॥ चिराय रक्षितं मानं काचिन्नाथे रणोन्मुखे । तत्याजैकपदे कान्ता कान्तसंश्लेषतत्परा ॥१६॥
अवितृप्तं मटी काचिद्भर्तृवक्त्रासवं पपौ । तथापि मदनप्राप्ता रणयोग्यमशिक्षयत् ॥१७॥ काचिदुत्तानितं भर्तुर्वदनं वनजेक्षणा । नैमिषोज्झितमद्राक्षीत् सुचिरं कृतचुम्बना ॥१८॥ काचिद्वक्षस्तटे मर्तुः करजवणमुज्ज्वलम् । भविष्यच्छत्रपातस्य सत्यंकारमिवार्पयत् ॥१९॥ इति संजातचेष्टासु दयितासु यथायथम् । मटानामित्यभूवाणी महासंग्रामशालिनाम् ॥२०॥ नरास्ते दयिते इलाध्या ये गता रगपस्तकम् । त्यजन्त्यभिमुखा जीवं शत्रूणां लब्धकीतयः ॥२१॥ उद्भिन्नदन्तिदन्ताग्रदोलादुर्लडितं भटाः । कुर्वन्ति न विना पुण्यैः शत्रुभिघोषितस्तवा ॥२२॥ गजदन्तामभिन्नास्य कुम्भदारणकारिणः । यत्सुखं नरसिंहस्थ तत् कः कथयितुं क्षमः ॥२३॥ त्रस्तं शरणमायातं दत्तपृष्ठं च्युतायुधम् । परित्यज्य पतिष्यामो दयिते शत्रुमस्तके ॥२४॥ भवत्या वाञ्छितं कृत्वा प्रत्यागत्य रणाजिरात् । प्रार्थयिष्ये समाश्लेषं भवन्तीं तोषधारिणीम् ॥२५॥ एवमादिमिरालापैः परिसान्त्व्य निजप्रियाः । धीरा निर्गन्तुमुद्युक्ताः संखयसौख्यसमुत्सुकाः ॥२६॥
पहुंचानेवाले आपको जब देखूगी तो मेरा मुखकमल खिल उठेगा और वीर पत्नियां मुझे बड़े गौरवसे देखेंगी ॥१३।। कोई स्त्री बोली कि मैंने जिस प्रकार आपके इस मुखको चुम्बन किया है उसी प्रकार वक्षस्थलपर उत्पन्न हुए घावके मुखका चुम्बन करूंगी ॥१४|| कोई नवविवाहिता स्त्री यद्यपि प्रौढ़ नहीं थी तथापि पतिके युद्ध के लिए उद्यत होनेपर प्रौढ़ताको प्राप्त हो गयी ॥१५॥ कोई स्त्री चिरकालसे मानकी रक्षा करती बैठी थी परन्तु जब पति युद्धके सम्मुख हो गया तब उसने सब मान एक साथ छोड़ दिया और पतिका आलिंगन करने में तत्पर हो गयी ॥१६।। यद्यपि किसी योद्धाको स्त्री पतिके मुखकी मदिरा पीती-पीती तृप्त नहीं हुई थी तथापि कामाकुलित हो उसने पतिके लिए रणके योग्य शिक्षा दी थी ॥१७॥ कोई कमललोचना स्त्री पतिके ऊपर उठाये हुए मुखको टिमकाररहित नेत्रोंसे चिरकाल तक देखती रही और उसका चुम्बन करती रही ॥१८॥ किसी स्त्रीने पतिके वक्षःस्थलपर नखका उज्ज्वल घाव बना दिया मानो आगे चलकर जो शस्त्रपात होगा उसका बयाना ही दे दिया था ||१९||
इस प्रकार जब स्त्रियोंमें नाना प्रकारकी चेष्टाएँ हो रही थीं तब महायुद्धसे सुशोभित योद्धाओंकी इस प्रकार वाणी प्रकट हुई ।।२०।। कोई बोला कि हे प्रिये ! वे मनुष्य प्रशंसनीय हैं जो रणाग्रभागमें जाकर शत्रुओंके समुख प्राण छोड़ते हैं तथा सुयश प्राप्त करते हैं ।।२१।। शत्रु भी जिनका विरद बखान रहे हैं, ऐसे योद्धा पुण्यके बिना मदोन्मत्त हाथियोंके दाँतोंके अग्रभागसे झूला नहीं झूल सकते ।।२२।। हाथोदाँतके अग्रभागसे विदीर्ण तथा हाथीके गण्डस्थलको विदीर्ण करनेवाले श्रेष्ठ मनुष्यको जो सुख होता है उसे कहनेके लिए कौन समर्थ है ? ॥२३।। कोई कहने लगा कि हे प्रिये ! मैं भयभीत, शरणागत, पीठ दिखानेवाल एवं शस्त्र डाल देनेवाले पुरुषको छोड़ शत्रुके मस्तकपर टूट पड़े गा ॥२४॥ कोई कहने लगा कि मैं आपकी अभिलाषा पूर्ण कर तथा रणांगणसे लौटकर जब आपको सन्तुष्ट कर दूंगा तभी आपसे आलिंगनकी प्रार्थना करूँगा ॥२५|| गौतम स्वामी कहते हैं कि इस प्रकारके वार्तालापोंसे अपनी प्राणवल्लभाओंको सान्त्वना देकर युद्धसम्बन्धी सुख प्राप्त करने में उत्सुक वीर मनुष्य घरोत बाहर

(21) Warriors, whose praise is sung by the enemy, cannot swing from the tusks of intoxicated elephants without merit. (22) Who is capable of describing the joy of a great man who has pierced through the tusks and the trunk of an elephant? (23) Someone exclaimed, "O beloved! I will abandon the fearful, the one seeking refuge, the one turning his back, and the one dropping his weapons, and will fight fiercely against the enemy's head." (24) Another said, "I will fulfill your wishes and, having returned from the battlefield, I will ask you for an embrace when I have satisfied you." (25)
