ततो मगधराजेन्द्रश्चारुवृत्तान्तविस्मितः । पप्रच्छ गणिनामयं'नूतनप्रश्रयान्वितः ॥१॥ किं पुनस्तस्य माहात्म्यं दृष्टं जनकभूभृता । रामस्य येन सा तस्मै तेन बुद्धचा निरूपिता ॥२॥ ततः करतलासङ्गद्विगुणीभूतदन्तमाः । जगौ गणधरो वाक्यं चित्तप्रसादनावहम् ॥३॥ शृणु राजन् प्रवक्ष्यामि रामस्याक्लिष्टकर्मणः । यतः प्रकल्पिता कन्या जनकेन सुबुद्धिना ॥४॥ दक्षिणे विजयार्द्धस्य कैलासाटेस्तथोत्तरे । अन्तरेऽस्यन्तबहवः सन्ति देशाः सहान्तराः ॥५॥ तत्रार्धवर्वरो देशो निःसंयमनमस्कृतिः । निर्विदग्धजनो घोरम्लेच्छलोकसमाकुलः ॥६॥ मैयूरमालनगरे कृतान्तनगरोपमे । आन्तरङ्गतमो नामेत्यर्द्धवर्वरचारिणाम् ॥७॥ पूर्वापरायतक्षोण्या यावन्तो म्लेच्छसंभवाः । कपोतशुककाम्बोजमङ्कनाद्याः सहस्रशः ॥८॥ गुप्ता बहुविधैः सैन्यैर्भीषणैर्विविधायुधैः । आन्तरङ्गतमं प्रीत्या परिवार्य ससाधनाः ॥९॥ आर्यानेताञ्जनपदान् प्रचण्डान्तररंहसः । उद्वासयन्त आजग्मुरिति कारुण्यवर्जिताः ॥१०॥ देशं जनकराजस्य ततो व्याप्तुं समुद्यताः । शलमा इव निःशेषमुपप्लवविधायिनः ॥११॥ जनकेन च साकेतां युवानः प्रेषिता द्रुतम् । आन्तरङ्गतमं प्राप्तमूचुर्दशरथस्य ते ॥१२॥ विज्ञापयति देव त्वां जनको जनवत्सलः । पौलिन्द परचक्रेण समाकान्तं महीतलम् ॥१३॥
अथानन्तर भामण्डलके सुन्दर वृत्तान्तसे आश्चर्यचकित हुए राजा श्रेणिकने नूतन विनयसे युक्त हो अर्थात् पुनः नमस्कार कर गौतम गणधरसे पूछा कि हे भगवन् ! राजा जनकने रामका ऐसा कौन-सा माहात्म्य देखा कि जिससे उसने रामके लिए बुद्धिपूर्वक अपनी कन्या देनेका निश्चय किया ? ॥१-२॥ तदनन्तर करतलके आसंगसे जिनके दाँतोंकी कान्ति दूनी हो गयी थी ऐसे गौतम गणधर चित्तको आह्लादित करनेवाले वचन बोले ।।३। उन्होंने कहा कि हे राजन् ! सुनो, संक्लेशहीन कार्यको करनेवाले रामचन्द्रके लिए अत्यन्त बुद्धिमान् जनकने जिस कारण अपनी कन्या देना निश्चित किया था वह मैं कहता हूँ॥४|| विजयाद्ध पर्वतके दक्षिण और कैलास पर्वतके उत्तरकी ओर बीच-बीचमें अन्तर देकर बहुत-से देश स्थित हैं ||५|| उन देशोंमें एक अर्धवर्वर नामका देश है जो असंयमी जनोंके द्वारा मान्य है, धूर्तजनोंका जिसमें निवास है तथा जो अत्यन्त भयंकर म्लेच्छ लोगोंसे व्याप्त है ॥६॥ उस देशमें यमराजके नगरके समान एक मयूरमाल नामका नगर है। उसमें आन्तरंगतम नामका राजा राज्य करता था ||७|| पूर्वसे लेकर पश्चिम तककी लम्बी भूमिमें कपोत, शुक, काम्बोज, मंकन आदि जितने हजारों म्लेच्छ रहते थे वे अनेक प्रकारके शस्त्र तथा नाना प्रकारके भीषण अत्रोंसे युक्त हो अपने सब साधनोंके साथ प्रीतिपूर्वक आन्तरंगतम राजाकी उपासना करते थे ।।८-९॥ जिनका गमन बीच-बीचमें अत्यन्त वेगसे होता था तथा जो दयासे रहित थे ऐसे वे म्लेच्छ इन आर्य देशोंको उजाड़ते हुए यहां आये ॥१०॥ तदनन्तर टिड्डियोंके समान उपद्रव करनेवाले वे म्लेच्छ राजा जनकके देशको व्याप्त करनेके लिए उद्यत हुए ॥११॥ राजा जनकने शीघ्र हो अपने योद्धा अयोध्या भेजे। उन्होंने जाकर राजा दशरथसे आन्तरंगतमके आनेकी खबर दी ।।१२।। उन्होंने कहा कि हे राजन् ! प्रजावत्सल राजा जनक १. नूतनप्रवयान्वितः क., ख.। २. तत्रार्धवर्वरीदेशे ब. । ३. मयूरमालानगरे क., ख.। ४. आन्ततरङ्गमे क., ख.। ५. मङ्कन्याद्याः ब. । ६. प्रेक्षिता क., ख., ब.। ७. आतासन्तजना तेन दूतस्तेन वदन्त वै (?) क., ख.। ८. प्राप्तु ब.। ९. पोलिंग्य म.।
